Andrew Cashner hits DL with Sore Elbow; Quackenbush Recalled
The Padres took another hit Saturday morning as it was revealed that RHP Andrew Cashner was experiencing soreness in his right elbow. As such, Cashner will be placed on the 15-day Disabled List to give the ace some time to recover and rest his golden arm. The announcement came via The Padres official twitter account Saturday morning.
Cashner, who is starting his first full season as a starting pitcher, has sported a 2-5 record with a 2.35 ERA over 9 games this season. Cashner was chosen as the Padres opening day starter and pitched a complete game 1-hit shutout against the Detroit Tigers on April 11th. Over the last 5 seasons, Cashner has posted a career 17-24 record with a lifetime 3.35 ERA.
There is no word yet on the severity of Cashner’s injury or who will start against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in his place.
With the announcement of Cashner hitting the DL, the Padres have recalled RHP Kevin Quackenbush from the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas. Quackenbush, who will be making his fourth stint with the big league club, made his major league debut this season against the Washington Nationals on April 25th. Since his debut, Kevin has appeared in 3 games with a 4.91 ERA over 3.2 innings pitched (2 earned runs given up over that span).
More information regarding Andrew and the Padres corresponding moves will be posted as updates come.
