Rafael…true…no upgrades on the field, but there’s a cost analysis effect here. If you get fairly similar production at a much lower cost (allowing you to spend elsewhere), then it’s an upgrade, isn’t it? Granted…there’s no guarantee any of these candidates would perform, but on the other hand there’s also the chance one could blossom. The beauty of the bigs!

Option Baker (who I like but just can’t hit) and roll with Hundley and Grandal; ideally splitting time. Ultimately, I think Grandal should be our catcher of the present and future, he’s 5 years younger than Hundley and he has a huge ceiling. We know where Hundley’s ceiling is and although I really like him, we gotta go with whoever gives us the better chance at winning. I believe that is Grandal.

I feel like option #1 is the most prudent right now. Let Grandal play in AAA for a bit and see if his swing is as good as it was last year, or if the ‘roids was the reason. Don’t forget, the catcher’s role is, first and foremost, to manage the staff. I think it should be a factor in this argument. I don’t know who the staff likes more behind the plate, or who has the better win percentage when behind the plate, but as up and down as this staff has been this year, the backstop plays a much more vital role than just BA and OPS. Additionally, I don’t think 3 catchers (option 3) is a good idea. Not enough playing time, unless Grandal is swinging a hot stick but not playing good defense, then you could use him as a PH and still have Baker for the backup catcher position.

Trade Hundley, leave Grandal at AAA for a month to get back in game shape without “help”.
Start Baker.

Sign me at the major league minimum. I won’t bitch about playing time, other players, bad ballpark design or anything. At more than $3,000 a game I’ll shine Bud Black’s shoes every day for a month and be grateful.

I’d like to see how well Grandal plays sans steroids before making any decision about Hundley. To that end, I’d send Grandal to AAA for a bit. I suspect the end result will be Grandal moving back up pretty quickly, and Hundley being traded, but I’d want confirmation that Grandal can do a better job first.

Hitting in the minors historically doesn’t equate to hitting in the majors. Yes, it’s a guideline.. but by no means a guarantee.
