HOUSTON SOLUTION: The Padres began a seven-game road trip yesterday, dropping the first of four against the Houston Astros…will travel to Chicago next for a three-game series at Wrigley Field…finished their eight-game homestand in walk-off fashion with a win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday…went 3-5 on the homestand, splitting a two-game set with the San Francisco Giants and taking one of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers and Reds…return home in six days for a seven-game homestand against the Philadelphia Phillies (four games) and Atlanta Braves (three games).
SOME TOUGH LUCK: RHP Dustin Moseley is 0-3 despite posting a 1.83 ERA (4 ER/19.2 IP)…in his 19.2 innings he has not received a run of support, with the Padres being shut out three times…according to ELIAS, the last time a starting pitcher’s team was shut out in each of his first three starts to begin a season was in 2008 when the Detroit Tigers were blanked in each of LHP Kenny Rogers’ first three starts…before Rogers, the last pitcher with no run support in his first three starts was LHP Rudy May for the 1972 California Angels (ELIAS).
AGAINST THE ASTROS: San Diego has won just six of their last 17 meetings with the Astros, 12 of their last 28 and 18 of their last 42…the Padres have also won just seven of their last 21 games at Minute Maid Park but are 20-18 all-time here since the park opened in 2000…won each of their first seven games at Minute Maid and nine of their first 10 from 2000-02.
