FOUR AGAINST PHILLY: The Padres begin a seven-game homestand tonight with the first of four against the Philadelphia Phillies...split a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs yesterday at Wrigley Field, picking up a season-high 12 hits for the win in game two...will host the Atlanta Braves for three games after this series...have on off-day after this homestand, a week from today, before traveling north to Los Angeles for a quick three-game road trip.
AGAINST THE PHILLIES: San Diego has dropped 10 of their last 12 meetings against Philadelphia, 18 of their last 26 and 30 of their last 43...have lost each of their last seven matchups against the Phillies at PETCO Park, 11 of their last 12 and 18 of 22 games ever played against Philadelphia at PETCO Park.
INSIDER KNOWLEDGE: Padres special assistant to baseball operations, Brad Ausmus, is no stranger to tonight’s scheduled starter for Philadelphia...the two were the starting battery 193 times for the Houston Astros, with Houston going 122-71 in those games...with Asumus behind the plate, Oswalt pitched to a 3.08 ERA in his career.
