Sharing is Caring

DODGERTOWN: The Padres today conclude their second series of the year against the National League West Division rival Los Angeles Dodgers…San Diego is 2-7 over the past nine games…snapped a three-game losing streak last night with a 5-2 victory…the Padres were 1-6 on the homestand against Philadelphia (0-4) and Atlanta (1-2)…they return home Monday to begin a six-game, seven-day, homestand against Pittsburgh (3) and Arizona (3).

SAVED BY THE BELL: Padres closer Heath Bell converted his sixth save of the season and first since 4/20 (Game 2) last night…has converted each of his last 40 save opportunities since 5/29/10, the longest active streak in MLBthe streak is the second longest in Padres history, only behind Trevor Hoffman’s 41 straight saves from 8/24/97-7/25/98…it’s the longest streak in the Majors since Brad Lidge converted 47 straight from 9/25/07-4/13/09 (baseball-reference.com)… Lidge’s streak was snapped on 4/18/09 when the Padres scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning for an 8-5 win over the Phillies.

GOODBYE TO YOU: The Padres’ 9-17 mark was their worst April record since the 1994 club went 7-17…the 17 defeats tied the club record for most April losses (also ‘08, ‘94, ‘87)…on the mound, SD notched a 3.05 ERA (82 ER/241.2 IP), the fifth-lowest clip in franchise history for the month…the ERA ranked first in the National League and third in the Majors for April in ‘11…San Diego hit .211 (184-for-870) and was shut out seven times in April, the club’s most for a single month since a franchise-record eight in July of 1976...it’s the most shutouts ever for any Major League team in April (ELIAS).
