Sharing is Caring

ON THE HOMESTAND: The Padres will wrap up a three-game set with the rubber match against the Pirates today…will have an off-day tomorrow before beginning a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.

PADRES.COM: With the final game of this three-game set today not televised by Channel 4 SD, fans are reminded the game will be available online, free-of-charge…the live video stream will be available exclusively on padres.com…in order to gain access to the free live video stream, fans will be required to complete a registration form on padres.com to validate their location…the stream will feature play-by-play from the Padres radio network, XX 1090 AM, with the call from Jerry Coleman and Andy Masur.

SAVED BY THE BELL: Padres closer Heath Bell converted his seventh save of the season yesterday and has now converted each of his last 41 save opportunities since 5/29/10, tying Trevor Hoffman’s mark for the longest such streak in Padres history…Hoffman converted 41-straight saves from 8/24/97-7/25/98…also tied with Hoffman and Rod Beck (8/19/93-4/29/95) for the fourth longest saves streak all-time, since saves became an official stat in 1969…it’s the longest streak in the Majors since Brad Lidge converted 47 straight from 9/25/07-4/13/09 (baseball-reference.com)… Lidge’s streak was snapped on 4/18/09 when the Padres scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning for an 8-5 win over the Phillies.

LONG BALLS: Mat Latos hit his first home run of the season yesterday and the second of his career, becoming the first Padres pitcher ever to homer at PETCO Park…was the fifth home run by any pitcher at PETCO (last, Yovani Gallardo on 5/1/10 for MIL)…also the first home run by a Padres pitcher in San Diego since Adam Eaton hit one off of Jeff D’Amico on 4/29/03 vs. PIT at Qualcomm Stadium…Eric Patterson also connected for his first home run of the season in same inning as Latos, the first time this season the Padres have had two home runs in an inning.

CLOSE CALLS: A total of 20 of the Padres’ first 30 games have been decided by two runs or less with San Diego posting a 8-12 record…SD has played nine one-run games, going 3-6 in those contests.
