SO, DO YOU COME TO MILWAUKEE OFTEN?: After taking two of three vs. the Diamondbacks and completing a 3-3 homestand, the Padres begin an eight-game, nine-day, road trip to Milwaukee (three games), Colorado (three games) and Arizona (two games).
BREW CREW: Tonight is the first of just five meetings between the two clubs in 2011…Milwaukee travels to San Diego 5/18-19 to begin the Padres’ next homestand…San Diego has won 11 of the last 18 meetings…since the Brewers ventured to the National League in 1998, the Padres own a 52-39 advantage…however, SD trails in Milwaukee 23-24, including 15-19 since Miller Park opened in ‘01.
WELL IT’S MY BIRTHDAY TOO, YEAH: Aaron Harang (5/9/78), Chase Headley (5/9/84), Strength and Conditioning Coach Jim Malone (5/9/67) and Hall of Fame outfielder Tony Gwynn (5/9/60) are all celebrating birthdays today.
FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME: The Padres have scored in the first inning four times for a total of nine runs in the opening frame this year…yesterday’s four-run first was the club’s most in the initial inning since scoring five on 7/29/09 at Cincinnati off of then-Reds pitcher Aaron Harang…San Diego went into yesterday’s game having scored a total of five runs all year in the first and had not scored in the inning since 4/23 at home vs. Philadelphia…the four runs yesterday were the most at home in the first inning since also scoring four on 9/11/08 vs. San Francisco
BEER CHASER: Chase Headley has a career .301 average against the Brewers, going 22-for-73 in 20 games…he’s had two three-hit games against Milwaukee…overall since 4/29, Headley has hit safely in seven of his past nine games, batting .346 (9-for-26).
CAN DO: Jorge Cantu hit the Padres’ first three-run homer of the year yesterday in the first inning…since 4/26, Cantu has hit safely in six of his eight games played, batting .348 (8-for-23) with two home runs and six RBI.
WILL’S VENERABLE IN MILWAUKEE: Will Venable has hit safely in six of his nine games at Miller Park, batting .321 (9-for-28) with two homers and nine RBI…he’s collected three multi-hit games here.
