ON THE ROX: San Diego and Colorado will play 18 times in 2011, beginning with the three-game series this weekend…Rockies won six of the 18 meetings last year…San Diego was 2-7 at home vs. Colorado, 4-5 here in Denver…Padres are 65-78 all-time in the Mile High City, including 61-72 at Coors Field…the Padres have dropped seven of the last 11 and 12 of the past 18 to the Rockies overall…however, San Diego is 8-7 in its past 15 games and 9-10 over the last 19 in Denver.
COMEBACK KIDS: Trailing 7-1 after five innings, San Diego won 9-7 yesterday, rallying for eight runs over the final three innings…Brad Hawpe’s ninth-inning, two-run homer secured the Padres’ biggest come-from-behind win since 7/31/09 when SD came back from six runs to win 11-7 vs. Milwaukee.
HAPPY FLIGHT: San Diego is 6-1 on getaway days…the Padres haven’t lost on a getaway day since 4/3 at St. Louis in the first series of the season…SD is 4-2 on Sundays and 7-5 in the final game of a series.
REHAB SUNDAY: Orlando Hudson (strained right hamstring) and Jarrett Hoffpauir (strained right quad) both are scheduled to begin minor league rehab assignments today with Triple-A Tucson…Hudson, who could be reinstated as early as Thursday, has been on the disabled list since May 4…Hoffpauir has been sidelined since the end of Spring Training when he was placed on the 15-day DL March 29 (retroactive to March 22) and then transferred to the 60-day on May 6.
ON A HAWPE AND A PRAYER: Since April 25, with a .365 batting average (19-for-52), Brad Hawpe ranks second in the National League to former teammate Matt Holliday (.389; 28-for-72) (min: 56 plate appearances)…Hawpe has nine runs, five doubles, two homers, seven RBI, a .421 on-base percentage and a .577 slugging percentage during that stretch, raising his batting average .135…he’s hit safely in 12 of 15 games, including a season-high three hits and three runs yesterday in his first start (second game) as an opposing player at Coors Field…played in 816 games for the Rockies (2004-10).
DEFINITELY, MAYBIN: Over the past four games, Cameron Maybin has 11 hits in his past 18 at-bats (.611)…raised his average from .232 after Monday to .280 currently…hit safely in 11 of past 14 games since 4/29 (.358; 19-for-53) with 12 runs scored; batting average ranks fourth in the NL over that span.
