LOOK IT UP: The Padres have tied a club record by scoring seven or more runs in five consecutive games for only the third time in franchise history…also accomplished the feat from 4/18-22 in 1979 and from 4/3-8 in 1996…team has never scored seven or more in six straight…SD has scored six or more runs in six consecutive games for the first time since 2001 (6/22-27) and for just the fourth time overall (also, 6 straight from 6/30-7/4/99 and a club-record seven straight from 4/18-27/92).
SUPER HAPPY FLIGHT: The Padres have won each of their last five series finales on the road and five of six on the season with their only loss coming in the first series finale of the year at STL…overall in series finales the Padres are 8-5, including winning four of their last five series wrap-ups.
J&B IS SMOOTH: Jason Bartlett has at least one RBI in each of his past eight games, one shy of tying the Padres’s club record of nine by Sixto Lezcano in 1982 (4/16-27) and Steve Finley in 1996 (6/22-7/1)…two other players also had an RBI in eight straight games: Carmelo Martinez in 1984 (6/21-28) and Tony Gwynn in 1984 (5/25-6/3).
BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX: San Diego ended their last homestand with a 4-3 win over Arizona…the team was batting .215 with on-base and slugging percentages of .299 and .321, respectively…since then, San Diego is now .235/.309/.348…on the road trip, the Padres have 54 runs (first in MLB over that span), 85 hits (first) and have posted a .323 batting average (85-for-263) (second)…they have 14 doubles, one triple, seven homers, a .357 on-base percentage and a .464 slugging percentage.
GET BACK: Orlando Hudson (strained right hamstring) started at second base and went 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs yesterday in his second minor league rehab appearance with Triple-A Tucson in a 10-4 win over Albuquerque…is 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, one RBI and three walks…Jarrett Hoffpauir (strained right quad) started at shortstop and was 0-for-3 yesterday…Hudson, who could be reinstated as early as Thursday, has been on the disabled list since 5/4…Hoffpauir has been sidelined since the end of Spring Training when he was placed on the 15-day DL 3/29 (retroactive to 3/22) and then transferred to the 60-day on 5/6.
ON A HAWPE AND A PRAYER: Since April 25, with a .356 batting average (21-for-59), Brad Hawpe ranks third in the National League over that span…Hawpe has 11 runs, five doubles, two homers and eight RBI during that stretch…he’s hit safely in 14 of 17 games (reached in 16 of the 17), including a season-high three hits and three runs Saturday in his first start (second game) as an opposing player at Coors Field…in May, Hawpe is batting .372 (16-for-43) with three doubles, two homers, eight RBI and 10 runs.
DEFINITELY, MAYBIN: Over the past six games, which includes two four-hit performances, Cameron Maybin is batting .480 (12-for-25)…raised his average from .232 on 5/9 to .273…hit in 12 of past 16 games since 4/29 (.333; 20-for-60) with 12 runs over that span.
