AGAINST THE RED BIRDS: The Padres opened the season with a three-game set in St. Louis, taking two of three from the Cardinals…have gone 6-7 over their last 13 games against the Cardinals but have dropped 16 of their last 22 meetings…are 11-11 all-time against the Cardinals at PETCO Park.

WELCOME TO THE SHOW: The Padres announced a couple of roster moves today…the club selected OF Blake Tekotte (TEE-coty) from Double-A San Antonio, optioned OF Will Venable to Triple-A Tucson and designated RHP Samuel Deduno for assignment…Tekotte will celebrate his 24th birthday tomorrow…his first appearance will be his Major League debut…the outfielder joins INF Logan Forsythe as the only two players thus far to reach the Majors from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft for San Diego.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: The Padres scored their lone run of yesterday’s game in the seventh inning and have now scored 77 of their 165 runs (46.7 %) on the season in the seventh inning of games or laterthe 77 runs in the seventh inning or later are the second most in the NL and third most in the Majors…only the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals have scored more in the seventh inning or later, with 80 runs each…the Padres have 154 hits in the seventh or later (.264, 154-for-583), the second most hits in the seventh or later for any team in the Majors (HOU, 160 hits).

RYAN IS LUD-WICKED: Ryan Ludwick is working on a season-high 10-game hitting streak, the third longest active streak in the NL and tied with Kevin Youkilis (BOS) for the third longest in the Majors…is hitting .436 (17-for-39) with four home runs, 14 RBI and six runs over his 10-game hit streak…has raised his batting average .060 points over that stretch, hitting .181 entering 5/11 compared to his current .241 mark…the streak is the sixth of his career of 10-or-more games, including an 11-game hit streak to end the 2008 season and a 10-game hit streak to start 2009…it his longest since an 11-game hit streak in July of 2009 (7/4-18/09)…over his last 23 games, since 4/25, is hitting .289 (26-for-90) with four doubles, six home runs, 21 RBI, nine runs scored, a .327 OBP and a .533 SLG…has raised his season marks from .184/.287/.303 (AVG/OBP/SLG) to .241/.308/.428 over that spanalso leads all Major League OFs this year with seven assists.

ON A HAWPE AND A PRAYER: Since April 25, Brad Hawpe has hit .321 (25-for-78) with 12 runs, seven doubles, two homers and eight RBI…he’s hit safely in 17 of 23 games (reached in 21 of the 23) over that stretch…has raised his marks overall on the season from .098/.145/.118 (AVG/OBP/SLG) to .233/.296/.341 since 4/25 over that span.
