In case you have not heard the news, the Padres entire pitching staff was snubbed from the All Star game. This includes arguably the best closer in the game right now in Heath Bell and 22 year old stud starting pitcher Mat Latos.

Since 9:30 am Sunday morning I have been shaking my head, thinking why? How? NOOOOO! After watching the interview with Charlie Manuel I am not sure if he is just not a bright guy or if he just gave the responsibility to someone else. Really, Omar Infante?

I looked over the Starting pitchers and Mat Latos is right there with any of them statistically, with one exception. He pitches on the team in the National League WITH THE BEST RECORD! None of the starters are slouches, all of these guys are legit, but did you really need Arthur Rhodes? NO!

I have been trying to find reasons why Charlie Manuel did not select Mat Latos

When the NL is down by five runs in the sixth inning Evan Meek would be more comfortable throwing?
Tim Lincecum fills the pitcher with a three letter first name rule?
Mat does not play for the Reds or the Braves?
He wanted to give west coast fans an opportunity to see more players from the Central and East.

I just don't know, but I'm sure some of you out there do! Give me your best reasons/excuses why Charlie Manuel left Mat Latos off the National League All Star roster and the person with the #1 reason will win a TEAM LATOS shirt! (HINT: Be Funny)

Because he's Charlie Manuel?

Maybe he searched for Matt Latos and yielded no results?

More likely, Bud quietly told him not to, so they could skip his turn in the rotation - better now than in August.

The main reason has to be because he does not see to much action from the west coast. He could also have been thinking the same thing he said about Stephen Strasbourg towared mat latos. "he will be an all star for many years let him get used to the major leagues"

The one and only reason is because Shrek (Charlie Manuel) is in a dispute for Fionas($) Love against Prince Charmin (Mat Latos)

He got snubbed for one of two reasons...

1. Manuel's team (Phillies) will do better in post season if the NL loses. Why? They are set up as a team that does better with a DH than small ball.

2. Latos lost to the Phillies and Manuel has written him off.. which will be good for us in August and OCTOBER when we play them again.

Manuel was quoted in the New York Daily News saying this : "I think that some of those guys (Latos, Mike Pelfrey and Jaime Garcia) are Sunday pitchers. Yeah, I think I was told that."

Yeah, I was told that by my wife. My wife, Morgan Fairchild. Yeah, that's the ticket, yeah.

Charlie, you need to check your facts. Latos is scheduled to go Thursday, so the All-Star Game would be 5 days' rest, his regular turn in the rotation (another reason to put him on, he'll be fresh and ready to go!). Even if Mat did throw Sunday, there's a rule that says pitchers can be named to the team, then replaced if unavailable to pitch, a rule he either didn't know or conveniently forgot. So Charlie is one of 2 things : a liar or an idiot. I have to lean toward idiot who lucked into a World Series title with the best offense in baseball and Cole Hamels throwing darts all October.

Because Charlie wanted the title BEST ERA and FIRST, NOT THIRD IN THE DIVISION. I just hope if (and only if) his team which by the way is THIRD, NOT FIRST LIKE THE PADRES AND MAT LATOS, makes the playoffs, Mat Latos shows them them how it's done and shows them to the door.

Mat didn't make it because he would probably embarrass all the other pitchers and they didn't want someone who is only 22 to make the old guys look bad! Plus is is the cutest guy and make all the others look bad!

Because Charlie Manual felt that Mat's TOA (Tattoo's On Arms) ratio was too high plus he did the calculation that if Mat pitched in the All Star game then he would be available for the Phillies series in August and he doesn't want that...

Because Mat's highschool coach Roger Davidson played minor league ball for the Phillies, and Looks exactly like Charlie Manuel. aka Colonel Sanders.

Also the Phillies asked Roger about Mat and got a good positive resoponse and then passed on him. Another blunder by Philly.

It's simple... Manuel is afraid to lose with Latos on the mound..He would rather have Evan Meek,Arthur Rhodes,Brian Wilson and Jonathan Broxton to lose than have Latos!

When Mat Latos was asked to put a tattoo of Charlie Manuel on his arm just to get in the All-Star game, he declined stating, "He'd rather earn All-Star recognition of his peers and fans than stoop to that level."

Charlie Manual is an idiot. Remember when he didn't even know how to make a double switch? I love the All Star Game but they seriously need to do something about how players get chosen. I know that there are a bunch of other players out there that should be on the team but there are also a bunch of players that don't deserve to be there. NL East VS AL East = 2010 All Star game.

Mat Latos and Carlos Gonzalez two major contributors to their team's success and look at their numbers! Omar Infante, really i would rather have Gonzalez be my "utility" player than Infante. Manuel should be ashamed

i believe latos should be in the all star game over brian wilson and gonzalez over infante. votto will be in with the final vote. Also think about Billy Wagner below 2 ERA 5-0 and 18 saves. Heres a couple more snubs: Matt Kemp, Billy Butler, Carlos Quentin, Kevin Youkilis, Felix Hernandez,

well it would have to be because of many thing.
1. He has not won a game all season
2. The team he plays for is in last place
& 3. He just Sucks i have no clue how he got in to the Major Leagues.

Charlie manuel and Bud Black had a prior agreement to keep Mat out of the allstar Game so that Bud And Mat could work on the Mat Latos clone over the all star break.

Dodgers manager Joe Torre bribed Charlie Manuel, so that the Padres would not have more all stars then there hated rival the La dodgers. The agreement was one Phillie cheesesteak to keep Mat Latos out of the all star game.
