Round Up Image 234

The Chihuahuas were the only farm team to earn a victory tonight; the Missions and the Storm both lost in extra innings while a poor start from Walker Weickel put the TinCaps in a hole they couldn’t overcome.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Travis Jankowski

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Keyvius Sampson

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Tacoma Rainiers 2

Rico Noel – CF: 1-4, BB, 2K

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 2-5, 2B, RBI, 2K, Run scored

Kyle Blanks – 1B: 1-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Alex Castellanos – 3B: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Code Decker – DH: 1-3, BB, 2K

Travis Buck – RF: 1-3, RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Keyvius Sampson – SP: 4.0 IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 3K

Kevin Quackenbush – RP: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 0K (S, 3)

Notes: Both of Keyvius Sampson’s starts this year have been very good. Sampson boasts a 1.08 ERA over 2 starts, but he has allowed 5 walks over 8.1 IP. Kyle Blanks has hit safely in every game he’s played in; he’s had at least 1 extra base hit in each of his last 4 games.

San Antonio Missions 5, Springfield Cardinals 8

Travis Jankowski – CF: 3-7

Cory Spangenberg – 2B: 2-7, K, Run scored

Jace Peterson – SS: 0-5, 2BB

Rymer Liriano – LF: 1-5, BB, Run scored

Austin Hedges – C: 1-6, RBI, 2 Runs scored

Lee Orr – 1B: 1-5, 2B, 2RBI, K, Run scored

Josh Geer – SP: 5.0 IP, 4H, ER, 0 BB, 2K

Notes: Following multi-hit performances from Travis Jankowski and Cory Spangenberg, both players are hitting .310 this year. After going 1-6 tonight, Austin Hedges is batting .200 on the year and is just 2-21 over his last 5 games. Rymer Liriano has also endured a rough start to the season as he has struck out 10 times over 25 AB’s and is hitting .160.

Lake Elsinore Storm 5, Lancaster JetHawks 6

Alberth Martinez – CF: 1-5, BB, K

Corey Adamson – LF: 1-6, HR(1), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-5, 4K

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 2-5, 2K, Run scored

Luis Domoromo – DH: 1-5, 2B, RBI, K

Casey McElroy – 2B: 1-5, 2B, RBI, 2K, Run scored

Colin Rea – SP: 4.2 IP, 4H, 4R, 3ER, 4BB, 2K

Notes: 2013 1st round draft pick Hunter Renfroe has had a difficult time making contact with the Storm. Renfroe has struck out at least once in every game he’s played; he has flashed some power, but he’s only hitting .235. After a 1-5 performance tonight, Alberth Martinez is now hitting an even .400 for the Storm.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 5, Kane County Cougars 7

Mallex Smith – CF: 2-5, K

Josh VanMeter – 2B: 1-4, 2B, BB, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 0-5, 2K

Fernando Perez- 1B: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K, Run scored

Franmil Reyes – RF: 1-4, HR(1), RBI, Run scored

Dane Phillips – DH: 1-4, K, run scored

Walker Weickel – SP: 2.0 IP, 5H, 6R, 4ER, 0BB, 4K (L, 0-2)

Notes: It was another rough night for Walker Weickel. After surrendering 4 earned runs over 3 innings in his first start, Weickel couldn’t even pitch into the 3rd in this start. The only bright side is that Weickel did manage to strike out 4 batters while walking none, but Weickel is not enjoying a good start to the season.
