Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-12-15

The TinCaps finally got to play a game! Unfortunately, Fort Wayne lost their season opener, but they enjoyed some strong individual performances during the game. The Chihuahuas and Storm both won close games while the Missions lost to the Cardinals by a score of 4-2.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Nick Schulz

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Elliot Morris

El Paso Chihuahuas 7, Tacoma Rainiers 6

Abraham Almonte – CF: 1-2, 3BB, 2 Runs scored

Jake Goebbert – LF: 1-3, RBI, BB

Tommy Medica – 1B: 1-5

Brett Wallace – 3B: 2-4, 2RBI, K, Run scored

Rymer Liriano – RF: 1-2, BB, Run scored

Cody Decker – DH: 2-5, 2B, K, Run scored

Austin Hedges – C: 2-4, 3RBI

James Needy – SP: 3.2 IP, 7H, 5ER, 2K, 2 HR Allowed

Kevin Quackenbush – RP: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 1K (S, 1)

Notes: Austin Hedges did a great job at the plate today; he recorded his first multi-hit and first multi-RBI game with the Chihuahuas. Kevin Quackenbush collected his first save of the new year. Quack has made 2 appearances with El Paso and has tossed 2 scoreless innings with 1 hit and 1 strikeout.

San Antonio Missions 2, Springfield Cardinals 4

Travis Jankowski – CF: 1-2, 2BB

Trea Turner – SS: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K

Diego Goris – 3B: 0-4

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-4, HR(1), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – LF: 0-4, K

Luis Domoromo – 1B: 2-4

Elliot Morris – SP: 6.0 IP, 1H, 0ER, 3BB, 3K

Casey Kelly – SP: 1.0 IP, 1H, 4ER, 3BB, K, HR Allowed (BS, 1)(L, 0-1)

Notes: Despite outhitting the Cardinals 6-3, and receiving an outstanding pitching performance from starter Elliot Morris, the Missions fell to the Cardinals 4-2. The only Missions pitcher to allow a run was Casey Kelly. Hunter Renfroe hit his first home run of the season, and Trea Turner logged his first hit with the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm 6, Modesto Nuts 4

Auston Bousfield – CF: 1-5, Run scored

Jose Rondon – SS: 2-4, 2 Runs scored

Fernando Perez – 2B: 1-4, K

Gabriel Quintana – DH: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K, Run scored

Jeremy Baltz – RF: 1-1, 2B, RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored

Nick Schulz – LF: 3-4, 2 2B, 4RBI, K

Rafael De Paula – SP: 5.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, 1BB, 5K (W, 1-0)

Notes: Following today’s game, the Storm are now winners of 3 straight! Rafael De Paula, who was acquired in the Chase Headley deal last summer, made his first start of the season and performed well. De Paula struggled mightily in 8 starts with Lake Elsinore last year, so it’s good to see him get started on the right foot this season. Nick Schulz continued his hot start to the season; he has 7 RBI’s over 3 games played.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Lansing Lugnuts 4

Michael Gettys – CF: 1-4, BB, Run scored

Josh VanMeter – 2B: 2-5, K

Franchy Cordero – SS: 0-5, RBI, K

Trae Santos – 1B: 1-3, 2B, BB, K

Duanel Jones – 3B: 2-4, K, Run scored

Nick Torres – LF: 2-4, 2B, RBI, Run scored

Jose Ruiz – C: 1-4, K

Dinelson Lamet – SP: 2.0 IP, 0H, 2ER, 2BB, 3K

Bryan Verbitsky – RP: 1.0 IP, 2H, 1ER, 0BB, 0K

Notes: The TinCaps finally managed to play their season opener after inclement weather and lousy field conditions postponed their last 3 games. Michael Gettys and Nick Torres, who were selected in the 2nd and 4th round, respectively, in last year’s draft, both made their full season ball debuts today. Both players collected hits and scored a run.
