Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-12-16

The Storm continued their strong start with a victory to bring their record to 5-1. The Missions, led by a strong game from Nelson Ward won 6-3 over the Drillers and the TinCaps squandered a strong start from Walker Lockett as they only scored 1 run.

Nelson Ward – SS: 2-4, 2B, HR(1), 3RBI, BB, 2K, 2 Runs scored

Auston Bousfield – CF: 2-3, 2B, RBI, BB, K

Yeison Asencio – RF: 0-4, 2K

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 1-4, 2B, 2RBI, K

Fabio Castillo – SP: 5.0 IP, 2H, 3ER, 3BB, 6K, HR Allowed (W, 1-1)

Kyle Lloyd – RP: 3.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K (H, 1)

Notes: Nelson Ward, who was acquired with Enyel De Los Santos from the Mariners for Joaquin Benoit, enjoyed his best game as a member of the Missions. This is Ward’s first season in Double-A, he hit .278 over 454 ABs in A ball last year. Auston Bousfield broke a modest 2 game hitless streak with a 2-for-3 performance that brought his average up to .250.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, High Desert Mavericks 2

Franchy Cordero – CF: 0-4, 4K

Luis Urias – 2B: 1-4

Javier Guerra – SS: 0-4, 3K

Franmil Reyes – RF: 2-4, K, Run scored

Edwin Moreno – LF: 1-4, HR(2), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Trae Santos – 1B: 1-3, 2B, Run scored

Dinelson Lamet – SP: 5.0 IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, 3K, 2 HR Allowed

Notes: Dinelson Lamet turned in another solid start for the Storm. Lames allowed just 2 hits over 5 innings pitched and earned his first victory of the season. Lamet had a break out season last year with the TinCaps turning in a 2.99 ERA and 120 strikeouts over 105.1 innings pitched. Javier Guerra has endured a bit of a slow start over the season’s first 6 games. Guerra has been held hitless over his last 2 games and has already struck out 12 times this year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 1, Great Lakes Loons 3

Rod Boykin – LF: 0-3, 2K

Ruddy Giron – SS: 1-4

Michael Gettys – CF: 0-3, 3K, Run scored

Austin Allen – C: 1-4, 3K

Ty France – 1B: 3-3, 2 2B, RBI, BB

Luis Tejada – DH: 1-4, K

Walker Lockett – SP: 6.0 IP, 7H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB, 6K (L, 0-1)

Notes: Walker Lockett has been outstanding so far this season. Locket has thrown 11 innings and allowed just 10 baserunners and 1 earned run while striking out 12. Unfortunately, Lockett has been the victim of low run support hence the 0-1 record. Lockett has struggled in the past at Fort Wayne, so his start this year is very promising.
