Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-14-14

Fort Wayne was the only team in the organization to lose today. The Chihuahuas, Missions, and Storm all received fantastic performances from their starting pitchers. The Chihuahuas and Missions both won close games while the Storm shutout the Quakes and won 5-0.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Hunter Renfroe

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Matt Wisler/Zach Eflin

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Reno Aces 3

Cameron Maybin – CF: 0-3, Run scored

Brooks Conrad – 3B: 3-4, 2B, 2RBI, K, Run scored

Kyle Blanks – LF: 2-4, 2B, 2RBI, 2K, Run scored

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 1-4, RBI, K

Cody Decker – 1B: 0-4, 2K

Alberto Gonzales – SS: 1-3, 2B, Run scored

Juan Pablo Oramas – SP: 5.2 IP, 5H, ER, 0BB, 7K, HR Allowed (W, 1-0)

Notes: The Chihuahuas benefited from a very strong start from Juan Oramas and strong offensive performances from Kyle Blanks and Brooks Conrad. Cameron Maybin went 0-3 for the second night in a row. He now has 8 AB’s with the Chihuahuas; the Padres want him to get at least 20 AB’s before they call him back up to the big leagues.

San Antonio Missions 2, Tulsa Drillers 1

Travis Jankowski – CF: 2-4, 2B, 3B, RBI

Cory Spangenberg – 2B: 0-3, BB, 2K

Jace Peterson – SS: 0-4, K

Rymer Liriano – LF: 1-3, HR(1), RBI, BB, Run scored

Austin Hedges – C: 0-3, 2K

Yeison Asencio – RF: 0-3, K

Matt Wisler – SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 3BB, 6L (W, 1-0)

Jesse Hahn – RP: 2.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 3K (H, 2)

Johnny Barbato – RP: 1.1 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K (S, 4)

Notes: Rymer Liriano swatted his first home run since coming back from Tommy John surgery. Liriano has endured a bit of a slow start, but he’s driven in 3 runs over his last 4 games, he’s getting hot. Matt Wisler was his typical dominant self; his 5 scoreless innings lowered his ERA to 2.08. Jesse Hahn, who only pitches after Wisler starts in an effort to keep his innings under control, has not allowed a run over his first 7.2 innings pitched with the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm 5, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 0

Alberth Martinez – CF: 2-5, 2B, 2 Runs scored

Reynaldo Bruguera – SS: 1-4, K, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 2-4, 2B, HR(3), 4RBI, 2K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 1-3, BB, 2K, Run scored

Duanel Jones – 1B: 1-4, 2B, RBI, 2K

Corey Adamson – LF: 0-3, BB, K

Zach Eflin – SP: 6.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 7K (W, 2-1)

Notes: It was a great night for a couple of Padres 1st round draft picks. Hunter Renfroe crushed his 3rd home run of the year, a 2-run shot, while also doubling and driving in a total of 4. The other former first round draft pick, Zach Eflin, was excellent. He bounced back from the worst start of his career by only allowing 5 base runners over 6 innings while striking out 7.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 2, Burlington Bees 4

Ronnie Richardson – CF: 0-1, 3BB

Josh VanMeter – 2B: 2-4

Dustin Peterson – DH: 0-2, BB

Franmil Reyes – RF: 0-3, K

Fernando Perez – 3B: 1-3, Run scored

Franchy Cordero – SS: 1-3, RBI

Adrian De Horta – SP: 4.0 IP, 4H, ER, BB, 6K

Notes: After a rough first start, Adrian De Horta has now tossed two solid starts in a row; he has 11 K’s over 11 innings pitched. Following tonight’s game, Franchy Cordero now owns a modest 4 game hitting streak. He is still hitting just .139 on the year, and he has also struck out at least once in all  9 games he’s played, but he’s making more contact, and he hasn’t struck out multiple times in a game since April 8th.
