Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-15-13

Donn Roach made his 3rd start of the season for the Missions. Despite his strong start, the Missions were blown out 9-1. The T-Pads lost a shootout despite a 3-4 day from Daniel Robertson and a perfect day at the plate for Travis Buck. Austin Hedges continues to struggle as the Storm loses 9-5. The TinCaps had the day off.

Notes: Travis Buck continues to make solid contact; after his perfect night at the plate he is hitting .390 with a home run and 12 RBI. Tommy Layne has struggled mightily in Tucson this year; he’s thrown only 2.1 innings while allowing 3 hits and 2 walks. He’s allowed 5 runs to cross the plate, though only 2 of those were earned. He owns a 7.71 ERA so far this year. Galvez has been hot recently; over his last 10 games he is hitting .343 with a home run and 6 RBI.

San Antonio Missions 1, Springfield Cardinals 9

Notes: Despite lowering his ERA to 0.61 and allowing 0 earned runs, Donn Roach received the loss in this game against the Cardinals. You know you’re having a good year when you allow 0 earned runs in your worst start of the season. Not only did San Antonio commit 3 errors (2 of which occurred while Roach was pitching) but they only collected 3 hits with 0 runs to back their starting pitcher. The Missions managed to score 1 run in the 9th after the game was out of reach.

Notes: Travis Jankowski continues to hit well; he’s hit safely in 6 of his last 7 games and is hitting .368 on the year. On the contrary, Austin Hedges has had a difficult time at the plate so far this year. He is hitless in his last 3 games over 9 AB’s. He’s hitting .147 on the year. With this loss, the Storm fall to 3-8.

Three weeks after I was born, Padre legend Tony Gwynn visited my hospital and handed out teddy bears to all the newborn children, including me. I have been a Padre fan ever since. Whether SD is in the midst of an exciting playoff run, or an uneventful off-season, I love following them and I love writing about them.
