Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-16-16

Fort Wayne, led by the hot bat of Austin Allen and an excellent performance from Luis Tejada, once again dominated. The Storm managed a 2-0 shutout victory while both the Chihuahuas and the Missions suffered poor pitching performances in their respective losses.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Luis Tejada

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Enyel De Los Santos

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Reno Aces 13

Jemile Weeks – CF: 2-4, BB

Carlos Asuaje – 2B: 0-4

Justin Hancock – SP: 1.0 IP, 8H, 6ER, 1BB, 1K (L, 0-2)

Notes: Hunter Renfroe turned in his second straight 3 hit game. Renfroe was excellent last year with the Chihuahuas hitting .333/.358/.633 over 21 games. Austin Hedges has hit safely in all 6 games he’s played in this season. Hedges hit well with El Paso last year, and has continued his strong Triple-A hitting into this season.

San Antonio Missions 4, Springfield Cardinals 9

Nelson Ward – 2B: 1-4, 2K

Auston Bousfield – CF: 0-3, BB, K, Run scored

Nick Torres – LF: 1-4, 2B, RBI, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-4, 2K

Jose Rondon – SS: 0-4, K

Luis Diaz – SP: 4.0 IP, 10H, 7ER, BB, 4K, HR Allowed

Notes: After a strong initial start, Luis Diaz faltered in his 2nd start of the season. Diaz allowed 11 base runners and 7 runs over 4 innings pitched while his ERA rose to 5.73. Mike Olt has only played 3 games so far with the Missions, but he’s hit safely in all 3 of them including a 3-run home run in his first game with the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 0

Franchy Cordero – CF: 2-4, RBI, 2K, Run scored

Luis Urias – 2B: 1-3, RBI

Javier Guerra – SS: 1-3

Franmil Reyes – RF: 0-3, K

Edwin Moreno – LF: 0-3, K

Chris Huffman – SP: 4.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 6K

Jimmy Brasoban – RP: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K

Notes: Javier Guerra ended his 4 game hitless streak with a 1-for-3 performance tonight. For the first time this season, Guerra did not strike out once during a game. Franchy Cordero was solid with a 2 hit performance tonight. Cordero has shown too much swing and miss so far this season (19 strikeouts in 10 games) but he has hit a respectable .275/.341/.375.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 14, South Bend Cubs 1

Ruddy Giron – SS: 2-5, 3B, 3RBI, 2K, Run scored

Michael Gettys – CF: 1-4, RBI, BB, 3K, Run scored

Ty France – 3B: 1-3, 2RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Austin Allen – C: 2-4, 2B, RBI, Run scored

Luis Tejada – RF: 3-3, 2 2B, RBI, 2BB, 3 Runs scored

Rod Boykin – LF: 3-4, RBI, BB, 3 Runs scored

Enyel De Los Santos – SP: 4.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 4BB, 4K

Notes: The TinCaps continue to impress with another beat down of the South Bend Cubs to improve their record to 7-3. Fort Wayne received yet another strong pitching performance from Enyel De Los Santos who’s 4 scoreless innings lowered his ERA to 2.35. Yet again, Austin Allen had a multi-hit game giving him 7 such games over his first 9 games of the season. Despite having 2 hits in each of his last 3 games, Allen’s average has steadily dropped as he’s now hitting .636 with a ridiculous 1.506 OPS.
