Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-17-13
Walker Weickel made his second start for Fort Wayne and did well. However, the TinCaps lost a tight pitcher’s duel. Lake Elsinore won a close game due to a perfect night at the plate from Duanel Jones and a couple of hits fro Austin Hedges. Jaff Decker provided the offense and Brad Boxberger delivered the save as the T-Pads beat the Bees 10-7. The Missions had an off day.

Notes: Brad Boxberger had an absolutely dominating save. While he did allow two hits, he recorded all 5 of his outs via strikeout. He collected his first save and lowered his ERA to an even 2.00. Jaff Decker collected his 3rd home run of the year and drove in runs 7, 8, and 9. An interesting fact: Brad Hawpe (former Padres first baseman) played in his first minor league game this year for the Bees (Angels affiliate). He went 1-5 with 3 strikeouts.

Notes: The Storm barely edge out the Quakes for a 5-4 victory. After hitting his first home run yesterday, Austin Hedges collected 2 hits tonight. He raised his average to .195 and is hopefully getting hot with the bat. Defensively, the Quakes stole 6 bases off of Hedges and were caught stealing once. Hedges also committed his second error of the season. With tonight’s win, the Storm improve to 5-8.

Genison Reyes-RP: 1.0 IP, 2H, 3R, ER, BB (BS, 1)(L, 1-1)
Notes: Walker Weickel, 2012 supplemental 1st round pick, turned in a great second start as he lowered his ERA to 3.52. Despite his efforts, the TinCaps lost the lead in the 8th and ended up losing the game 4-3. Dane Phillips has been inconsistent to start this season; he has 2 multi-hit games over his last 4, but he also has 2 hitless games. Overall he is hitting .318 with a home run and 3 RBI to start the season.
