Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-17-16

The entire organization lost today, but there were some bright spots around the farm. Austin Hedges and Javier Guerra both hit their first home runs of the season while the TinCaps received strong performances from Austin Allen and Walker Lockett despite enduring their first home loss of the season.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Austin Hedges

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Walker Lockett

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Reno Aces 8

Manuel Margot – CF: 1-5, RBI, K

Jemile Weeks – 3B: 1-4, 3B, Run scored

Alex Dickerson – LF: 0-2, RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-4, 2B

James Loney – 1B: 0-4

Austin Hedges – C: 2-4, HR(1), 2RBI, Run scored

Greg Reynolds – SP: 5.0 IP, 8H, 5R, 4ER, 0BB, K

Notes: Austin Hedges blasted his first home run of the year during a 2-hit performance, which raised his average to .346. Hunter Renfroe hit his 4th double in the last 2 days and Nick Noonan collected 2 hits for the second time in 3 games. Manuel Margot went just 1-for-5 after receiving an off day yesterday. Margot is battling a slow start that has seen him hit .156 over his first 32 ABs.

San Antonio Missions: Postponed (Rain)

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6

Franchy Cordero – CF: 2-4,

Luis Urias – DH: 0-4

Javier Guerra – SS: 2-4, 2B, HR(1), RBI, K, Run scored

Franmil Reyes – RF: 0-4, K

Edwin Moreno – LF: 0-4, 4K

Trae Santos – 1B: 1-3, 3B, Run scored

Brandon Morrow – SP: 6.1 IP, 10H, 5ER, 1BB, 5K, HR Allowed

Notes: Javier Guerra hit his first home run of the season in this game and recorded his first multi-hit game since April 9th. Guerra had really been struggling with the bat up to this point, but hopefully this game will act as a catalyst and get him back on the right track. Franchy Cordero smacked multiple hits for the second night in a row and now owns a modest 5 game hitting streak, which has brought his average up to .295. Brandon Morrow made his second rehab start with the Storm and pitched into the 7th inning. While the results weren’t pretty, he stayed healthy, and pitched deep into the game and that’s what counts.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 4, South Bend Cubs 5

Ruddy Giron – SS: 0-4

Daniel Bravo – DH: 1-3, BB, Run scored

Michael Gettys – RF: 1-4, 2K, Run scored

Brad Zunica – 2B: 0-4, 2K

Kodie Tidwell – 3B: 1-3, RBI, BB, Run scored

Rod Boykin – CF: 1-3, Run scored

Austin Allen – C: 1-1, 2RBI, BB

Walker Lockett – SP: 6.0 IP, 4H, 3R, 0ER, 2BB, 2K

Notes: Make it back-to-back quality starts for Walker Lockett who has been brilliant to start the year. Lockett has tossed 17 innings over 3 starts and has allowed just 1 earned run with 14 strikeouts and just 3 walks. Austin Allen entered this game as a pinch hitter and only had 2 ABs, but that didn’t stop him from making yet another impact at the plate. Allen’s 1-for-1 performance brought his average up to .647 and gave him 22 hits on the season. Both those numbers lead the minor leagues.
