Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-23-13

It was a dismal night for the entire San Diego organization. Not only were the Padres spanked by the Brewers for the second night in a row, but every single team on the farm was unable to collect a victory. The Storm got the closest to a victory behind a solid Matt Wisler, but ultimately they were edged out 5-4. Fort Wayne’s pitching staff performed atrociously tonight as the Hot Rods scored in every inning. The Missions offense was inept; they only contributed 3 hits all night while committing 3 errors. Tucson limited the Grizzlies to 4 runs, but due to a lackluster offensive performance, their winning streak ended at 6.

Round Up Image 234

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jeremy Baltz

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Matt Wisler

Tucson Padres 2, Fresno Grizzlies 4

Jaff Decker-RF: 1-3, 2b, K, Run scored

Daniel Robertson-CF: 0-3, BB, K, Run scored

Travis Buck-LF: 0-1, 3BB

Jonathan Galvez-2B: 3-4, 2b, 2RBI

Cody Decker-1B: 2-4

Dean Anna-SS: 0-4, 2K

Eddie Bonine-SP: 3.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, BB, K, HR Allowed

Notes: The T-Pads 6 game winning streak was snapped tonight as their record falls to 9-10. Jonathan Galvez continued a hot streak and has now raised his average above .300. He is hitting .309 over 68 AB’s. He has 15 hits and 11 RBI over his last 10 games. Knuckleballer Eddie Bonine made his first start with the T-Pads and was not particularly effective. He allowed 6 hits in 3 innings and allowed 2 runs to score while collecting only 1 strikeout.

San Antonio Missions 1, Frisco RoughRiders 6

Reymond Fuentes-RF: 0-1, 3BB

Rico Noel-CF: 0-3, K

Everett Williams-LF: 1-4, K

Tommy Medica-1B: 0-2, 2BB, K

Jake Blackwood-3B: 0-4, 2K

A.J. Kirby-Jones-DH: 1-3, 2b, Run scored

Adam Buschini-2B: 1-3, RBI, K

Burch Smith-SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, 4R, 2ER, 0BB, 4K (L, 1-2)

Matt Stites-RP: 2.0 IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 3K

Notes: Burch Smith had absolutely no luck tonight. Sloppy defense contributed to two unearned runs against him, and the Missions only provided 3 hits all night to back his solid start. Despite his 1-2 record, his ERA stands at a robust 1.71 on the year. Reymond Fuentes failed to collect a hit for the first time since April 15th, but he did collect 3 walks. Not a lot of positives to say about the position players in this game.

Lake Elsinore Storm 4, Lancaster JetHawks 5

Travis Jankowski-CF: 0-3, RBI, BB, 2K

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-4, BB, K

Yeison Asencio-RF: 0-4

Lee Orr-1B: 0-2, BB, Run scored

Austin Hedges-C: 1-4, 2b, RBI, Run scored

Kyle Gaedele-LF: 2-4, 2K

Jace Peterson-SS: 2-3

Matt Wisler-SP: 5.0 IP, 4H, 2ER, BB, 7K

Notes: The Storm received production solely from the bottom of their lineup as their first 4 hitters combined to go 0-13. After slow starts to the season, Austin Hedges and Jace Peterson appear to be picking up the pace. Hedges has hit safely in his last 6 games while Jace Peterson has 2 hits in each of his 3 last games. Matt Wisler continues to pitch well; this marks his 4th start in a row where he’s gone 5 innings and he’s never given up more than 2 runs. He has 19 strikeouts and only 14 hits with 4 walks in that span. He owns a 1.35 ERA on the year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 6, Bowling Green Hot Rods 12

Mallex Smith-DH: 0-5, K

Alberth Martinez-RF: 1-5, 2b, RBI, 2K

Diego Goris-2B: 0-4, K

Dane Phillips-C: 2-4, 2b, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana-3B: 1-4, 2K

Jeremy Baltz-LF: 2-4, HR(4), 2RBI, Run scored

Brian Adams-CF: 2-4, RBI, K, Run scored

Erik Cabrera-SP: 3.1 IP, 7H, 6ER, 3BB, K, HR Allowed (L, 0-2)

Ruben Mejia-RP: 2.2 IP, 3H, 3R, 1R, BB, 3K

Notes: Dane Phillips continues to swing a hot bat; with his 2-4 performance tonight he raised his average to .389. Jeremy Baltz has been trying to break out of a slump that saw him go 1-21 before tonight’s 2 hit performance. Hopefully the home run will wake his bat up. After enjoying his most successful start on the season, Erik Cabrera followed that performance up with a mediocre one. In fact, the Hot Rods managed to score a run in every inning that they batted in. The loss moves the TinCaps to 9-8 on the season.
