Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-24-14

The Chihuahuas were the only the only minor league team that was able to generate some offense on the farm tonight. The Missions, Storm, and TinCaps were only able to score 3 runs combined.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Kyle Blanks

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Pete Kelich

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Sacramento River Cats 1

Reymond Fuentes – LF: 1-3, BB, K, Run scored

Cameron Maybin – CF: 1-3, RBI, BB

Travis Buck – DH: 1-3, 2B, K

Kyle Blanks – 1B: 2-3, HR(6), 2RBI, Run scored

Adam Moore – C: 2-3, 2B, BB, 2 Runs scored

Rico Noel – RF: 3-4, 2RBI, Run scored

Branch Kloess – SP: 5.1 IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 2K (W, 2-1)

Notes: Cameron Maybin has now hit safely in 4 of his last 5 games. Maybin is now 10 games and 37 AB’s into his rehab assignment so he should be called up shortly. Kyle Blanks continues to show off his plus power as he went yard for the 6th time tonight. Blanks is now hitting .286 on the season.

San Antonio Missions: 0, Frisco RoughRiders 2

Casey McElroy – 2B: 0-4, BB, 2K

Bridger Hunt – 3B: 0-4, 2K

Rymer Liriano – LF: 0-4, K

Jason Hagerty – DH: 2-4

Austin Hedges – C: 0-4, 2K

Kyle Gaedele – CF: 1-3, BB

James Needy – SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, HR Allowed

Notes: Tough game for the Missions as their pitching only allows 4 hits, but they get shutout and lose 2-0. San Antonio went 0-for-9 with RISP, they just could not get a clutch hit. Jason Hagerty has had a strong start; he’s hitting .296 with 2 home runs over his first 7 games.

Lake Elsinore Storm 1, Stockton Ports 5

Alberth Martinez – CF: 0-4, 2K

Corey Adamson – LF: 0-3, BB

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 0-4, 3K

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-3, 2K

Diego Goris – 2B: 1-3, 2B, 2K, Run scored

Luis Domoromo – 1B: 1-3, RBI

Joe Ross – SP: 5.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, HR Allowed (L, 1-2)

Notes: Joe Ross got the loss tonight, but he didn’t deserve it. Ross allowed just 2 runs over 5 innings while striking out 5. It was his 3rd straight start in which he had at least a strikeout per inning. His offense barely helped him out as the Storm only scored 1 run on 2 hits. Hunter Renfroe stuck out 3 times for the 2nd straight night.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 2, Great Lakes Loons 1

Mallex Smith – CF: 0-2, 3BB, K, Run scored

Josh VanMeter – 2B: 1-5, K, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 1-5, 2B, RBI, K

Fernando Perez – 1B: 1-5, K

Ryan Miller – C: 0-4, BB, K

Franchy Cordero – SS: 1-5, 3K

Pete Kelich – SP: 5.2 IP, 6H, 1R, 0ER, BB, 9K

Notes: Despite going 0-for-7 with RISP, the TinCaps won a close one 2-1 in 11 innings. Pete Kelich deserves a ton of credit for this victory; the only run he allowed was unearned and he struck out 9 over 5.2 innings pitched. It was easily his best start of the season.
