Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-25-14

The Missions, Storm, and TinCaps all received excellent pitching performances from their starters tonight. The Chihuahuas on the other hand had to resort to using Jeff Francoeur on the mound once again in their blowout loss to the River Cats.
Hitting Prospect of the Day: Gabriel Quintana
Pitching Prospect of the Day: Matt Wisler/Zach Eflin
El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Sacramento River Cats 14
Reymond Fuentes – LF: 1-4, BB
Rico Noel – CF: 0-4, BB, 2K
Travis Buck – DH: 1-4, RBI, K
Cody Decker – 1B: 0-3, 2BB
Jeff Francoeur – RF: 1-5, K
Jake Lemmerman – 3B: 2-3, 2B, RBI, BB, K, 2 Runs scored
Juan Pablo Oramas – SP: 3.0 IP, 5H, 3ER, 4BB, 4K
Jeff Francoeur – P: 0.1 IP, 0H, 0R, K
Notes: Jeff Francoeur made his 3rd appearance of the season on the mound and struck the only batter he faced. He’s been making these appearances because the Chihuahuas pitching staff has struggled mightily recently and the bullpen is depleted. Despite being a position player, Frenchy has done very well in his limited pitching action; his ERA is a perfect 0.00.
San Antonio Missions: 0, Midland RockHounds 2
Casey McElroy – 2B: 0-5, 2K
Brian Bixler – SS: 1-4
Rymer Liriano – LF: 0-3, BB
Jason Hagerty – 1B: 1-2, 2BB
Austin Hedges – C: 0-4
Kyle Gaedele – CF: 0-4
Matt Wisler – SP: 7.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 10K
Notes: Matt Wisler tossed a gem. You can’t get much better than 7 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts. Had Wisler received just a little offensive support he would have easily won this game, but the Missions were blanked for the 11 innings that they played the RockHounds. Wisler’s ERA dropped to 2.16 over 25 innings pitched after the start.
Lake Elsinore Storm 8, Stockton Ports 0
Corey Adamson – DH: 1-4, RBI
Stephen Carmon – SS: 1-4, 2B, BB, Run scored
Hunter Renfroe – RF: 2-5, 2K
Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 2-3, HR(3), RBI, 2B, 2 Runs scored
Alberth Martinez – CF: 0-4, BB, 2K, 2 Runs scored
Jeremy Rodriguez – C: 3-4, 2B, RBI
Zach Eflin – SP: 6.0 IP, 3H, 0ER, 1BB, 5K (W, 4-1)
Notes: Zach Eflin continues to be one of the most consistent pitchers in the Padres system. Over his last 3 starts Eflin has tossed 17.2 innings and has only allowed 1 run. Hunter Renfroe has struck out multiple times over his last 3 games. Renfroe has now struck out 36 times over 86 AB’s this year.
Fort Wayne TinCaps 4, West Michigan Whitecaps 0
Mallex Smith – CF: 1-3, 2B, 2BB, K
Josh VanMeter – 2B: 2-5, 2 2B, Run scored
Dustin Peterson – 3B: 1-4, RBI, K, Run scored
Fernando Perez – 1B: 2-4, 2 2B, RBI, K, Run scored
Dane Phillips – C: 1-4, 2RBI
Franchy Cordero – SS: 2-4, 2B, 2K
Coby Cowgill – SP: 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K (W, 1-0)
Tayron Guerrero – RP: 1.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 3K
Notes: Franchy Cordero is finally adjusting to the Midwest League. Cordero has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games and has driven in 5 over that stretch. He still strikes out far too much – 17 times over his last 10 games – but the average is heading the right direction. Tayron Guerrero was impressive out of the pen yet again, he struck out the side and lowered his ERA to 0.73.
