Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-27-13

After getting shutout last night, the T-Pads collected 12 hits en route to their 7-3 victory over the Sky Sox. San Antonio won a tight game in which they scored two 9th inning runs to win 4-3. Despite home runs from Yeison Asencio and Robert Kral, Lake Elsinore was only able to score 3 runs in their loss against the Quakes. Justin Hancock turned in a quality start for Fort Wayne but the bullpen was unable to sustain the lead as the TinCaps fell to the Cougars 5-3.

Notes: The T-Pads halted their 3 game skid as the offense collected 12 hits to back a strong Sean O’Sullivan. Daniel Robertson has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games and, with his 3-hit performance tonight, he is hitting .405 over that span. On the year he is hitting .376 over 85 AB’s (32 hits). Sean O’Sullivan turned in his second solid start in a row. Over his last 2 starts he’s thrown 12.1 innings with 5 earned runs.

San Antonio Missions 4, Midland RockHounds 3

Reymond Fuentes-RF: 1-5, 3K, Run scored

Rico Noel-CF: 0-3, RBI

Everett Williams-LF: 1-4

A.J. Kirby-Jones-1B: 0-3, BB

Jake Blackwood-3B: 2-4, K, Run scored

Jose De Paula-SP: 5.0 IP, 8H, 3R, 2ER, 4K

Kevin Quackenbush-RP: 1.0 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K (S, 2)

Notes: It was a very clutch victory for the Missions. Down 3-2 in the 9th, Eddy Rodriguez hit a sac fly and Jeudy Valdez reached base via error allowing Anthony Contreras to score and give the Missions a 4-3 lead. Kevin Quackenbush then made the most out of the save opportunity as he promptly struck out the side and collected his second save of the year. Despite going just 1-5 tonight, Reymond Fuentes is hitting .405 over his last 10 games and is hitting .356 on the year (87 AB’s). With this victory, the Missions even their record at 11-11.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8

Travis Jankowski-CF: 0-2, 2BB

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-4, K

Yeison Asencio-RF: 2-4, 2b, HR(4), 2RBI, Run scored

Jace Peterson-SS: 1-3, K

Colin Rea-SP: 3.1 IP, 4H, 3ER, 5BB, 2K

Notes: Yeison Asencio is trying to break out of a slump that has seen him hit only .205 over his last 10 games. After collecting a homerun and a double tonight, look for him to start swinging a hot bat. Robert Kral is quietly having a very solid season at the plate serving as the Storm’s backup catcher. Over 45 AB’s Kral is hitting a robust .356 (16 hits) with 4 home runs and 10 RBI. In comparison, Austin Hedges is hitting just .217 over 60 AB’s (13 hits) with 1 home run and 4 RBI.

Luis Tejada-1B: 1-4, 2b, K

Justin Hancock-SP: 6.0 IP, 3H, 2R, ER, 2BB, 3K

Notes: Justin Hancock continues to pitch well. After tossing his first quality start of the season tonight, Hancock boasts a 1-0 record with a 2.14 ERA over 4 starts and 21 innings pitched. Jeremy Baltz is now on a 5 game hitting streak after enduring a nasty 1-20 stretch at the plate. Over the streak he has 8 hits including a home run and 4 RBI. Mallex Smith went hitless for his second game in a row.
