Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-6-13

The offensive struggles for the T-Pads continue as they fall to the Bees 5-3. San Antonio and Fort Wayne dominated as they combined to outscore their opponents 20-1. Jeremy Baltz collected 6 RBI for Fort Wayne and Burch Smith threw 6 scoreless innings against the Drillers. Lake Elsinore lost a tight game despite another night of strong performances by Cory Spangenberg and Kyle Gaedele.

Round Up Image 234

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jeremy Baltz

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Justin Hancock/Burch Smith

Tucson Padres 3, Salt Lake Bees 5

Jaff Deker-LF: 0-5, 2K

Jonathan Galvez-2B: 0-3, 2K

Kyle Blanks-1B: 1-3, BB, Run scored

Travis Buck-DH: 1-4, K, Run scored

Gregorio Petit-SS: 1-3, BB, K

Fautino De Los Santos-RP: 2.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 3K

Nick Vincent-RP: 1.0 IP, 2H, 2R, 1ER, 2K (L, 0-1)

Notes: It seems all teams called the Padres have a tough time collecting W’s as the T-Pads have started 0-3. Both Padres teams also have a tough time collecting runs; the T-Pads have only scored 4 runs over the past 2 games. Top prospect Robbie Erlin (acquired from the Rangers in the Mike Adams trade) made an unspectacular 2013 debut; he threw just over 3 innings, allowed 3 runs, and struck out 3.

San Antonio Missions 7, Tulsa Drillers 1

Reymond Fuentes-RF: 1-4, 3b, 2K, Run scored

Everett Williams-LF: 1-4, Run scored

Tommy Medica-1B: 2-4, 2b, HR(1), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Jeudy Valdez- SS: 2-4, 2b, K, 2 Runs scored

Rocky Gale-C: 2-4, 2RBI

Chris Bisson-2B: 1-3, RBI, BB, Run scored

Jake Blackwood-3B: 3-3, 2b, BB, Run scored

Burch Smith-SP: 6.0 IP, 3H, 0ER, BB, 5K (W, 1-0)

Chris Rearick-RP: 1.0 IP, H, BB, 2K

Notes: After recording only 5 hits last night, the Missions’ bats heat up as they blow out the Drillers. Burch Smith (Padres number 20 prospect according to MLB.com) had a dominating 2013 debut; he only allowed 4 base runners and struck out 5 over the course of 6 innings. The Missions have started 2-1 to begin the season.

Lake Elsinore Storm 7, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8

Jace Peterson-SS: 0-4, K

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 2-5, K, Run scored, 2 SB(8)

Robert Kral-C: 2-4, HR(1), RBI, BB, 2K, 3 Runs scored

Yeison Asencio-RF: 2-4, 2 2b, RBI, BB, 2K, Run scored

Kyle Gaedele-LF: 2-3, 3b, 3RBI, BB, Run scored, SB(3)

Travis Jankowski-CF: 0-3, RBI

James Needy-SP: 3.0 IP, 3H, 2ER, 3BB, K, HR Allowed

Luis De La Cruz-RP: 2.0 IP, 5H, ER, K (L, 0-2)

Notes: The Storm squandered away a 5-2 lead after allowing the Quakes to score 5 runs in the 6th. Cory Spangenberg and Kyle Gaedele have had torrid starts to the season; Spangenberg has gotten multiple hits every game while recording an astounding 8 stolen bases in 3 games while Gaedele has 5 RBI over his last two games. By going 0-3 today, Travis Jankowski’s hitting streak of 22 games was snapped.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 13, Great Lakes Loons 0

Mallex Smith-DH: 0-2, 3BB, K, 3 Runs scored, SB(2)

Jeremy Baltz-LF: 3-5, 2b, 2 HR(2), 6RBI, 2 Runs scored

Gabriel Quintana-3B: 3-5, HR(1), RBI, 2K, 2 Runs scored

Dane Phillips-C: 1-3, HR(1), 2RBI, 2BB, 2K, Run scored

Maxx Tissenbaum-SS: 2-5, 2RBI, 3K, 2 Runs scored

Justin Hancock-SP: 5.0 IP, 2H, 0ER, BB, 7K (W, 1-0)

Tayron Guerrero-RP: 2.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 2K

Notes: The TinCaps dominated the Loons for the 3rd game in a row. Jeremy Baltz had the best game of his young professional career as he hammered 2 home runs and drove in 6. For the 3rd day in a row, the TinCaps starter dominated the Loons. Tonight’s starter, Justin Hancock, is looking to have more success in his second go around with Fort Wayne and, after this start, it looks like he may do just that. After a shaky first appearance, Tayron Guerrero threw 2 scoreless innings while recording 2 strikouts.
