Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-6-14

It was a rough day on the farm as all 4 of the Padres minor league affiliates lost. All 4 teams suffered through poor pitching performances while the Chihuahuas and Missions could only muster 1 run apiece.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Alberth Martinez

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Tony Sipp

El Paso Chihuahuas 1, Reno Aces 9

Reymond Fuentes – LF: 2-4, 2B, K

Rico Noel – CF: 0-3, BB

Kyle Blanks – RF: 1-2, HR(1), RBI, BB, Run scored

Cody Decker – 1B: 1-4, K

Brooks Conrad – 2B: 1-4, K

Alex Castellanos – 3B: 2-4, 2B, 3B

Burch Smith – SP: 3.0 IP, 4H, 4ER, 3BB, K (L, 0-1)

Tony Sipp – RP: 2.0 IP, H, 0R, BB, 3K

Notes: The Chihuahuas faced a tough task going up against top prospect Archie Bradley, and they were unable to score a single run against him. The Chihuahua’s only run came in the 8th from a solo shot by Kyle Blanks. A major reason for the Chihuahua’s offensive deficiencies today was the fact that they went 0-7 with runners in scoring position. On the pitching side, Burch Smith struggled throughout his first start of the year. Smith allowed 7 base runners and 4 runs over 3 innings while only striking out 1.

San Antonio Missions 1, Tulsa Drillers 5

Bridger Hunt – 2B: 0-4

Jace Peterson – SS: 1-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Rymer Liriano – LF: 0-3, BB, K

Kyle Gaedele – LF: 1-4, 2K

Yeison Asencio – RF: 0-4

Austin Hedges – C: 0-3

Justin Hancock – SP: 4.0 IP, 7H, 2ER, 2BB, K (L, 0-1)

Notes: Nothing went right offensively for the Missions as they only had two hits all game. Rymer Liriano endured a particularly bad day at the plate as he went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts. Liriano has gotten off to a slow start this year; he’s struck out multiple times in all 3 games he’s played and he’s 1-11 (.091) on the year.

Lake Elsinore Storm 4, Lancaster JetHawks 7

Alberth Martinez – CF: 2-5, 3RBI, K

Casey McElroy – 2B: 0-5, 2K, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 0-3, BB, K

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-3, BB, K

Corey Adamson – DH: 3-4, 3B, K, 2 Runs scored

Stephen Carmon – SS: 2-4

Ruben Mejia – SP: 4.0 IP, 4H, ER, 5BB, 2K

Notes: Alberth Martinez is enjoying a torrid start to the season; Martinez has hit safely and driven in a run in every game so far this year. Over the season’s first 4 games Martinez is batting 8-17 (.471) with 1 home run and 7 RBI’s. The starting pitcher, Ruben Mejia, was wildly effective in today’s game; he allowed 9 base runners over 4 innings pitched, but he only allowed 1 run.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 5, Great Lakes Loons 10

Mallex Smith – CF: 2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, Run scored

Franchy Cordero – SS: 0-4, BB, 3K, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 1-4, RBI, BB

Franmil Reyes – RF: 2-5, 2RBI

Fernando Perez – 3B: 0-4

Dane Phillips – C: 2-4, 3B, Run scored

Jimmy Brasoban – SP: 3.1 IP, 7H, 8ER, 2BB, 4K (L, 0-1)

Tayron Guerrero – RP: 2.0 IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 2K

Notes: After dominating the Arizona League last year, Franchy Cordero has dealt with a very rough start to the season for the TinCaps. Cordero has struck out 11 times in 16 AB’s and is 1-16 (.063) over the season’s first 4 games. This was the first game in which Dustin Peterson failed to record an extra-base hit. However, he still went 1-4 with an RBI and kept his average at .375.
