Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-8-14

It was a good day down on the farm; Joe Ross and Matt Wisler both enjoyed dominant starts while the Missions and Storm received great offensive performances.

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Joe Ross/Matt Wisler

El Paso Chihuahuas: Postponed (Rain)

San Antonio Missions 5, Tulsa Drillers 3

Travis Jankowski – CF: 3-5, Run scored

Cory Spangenberg – 2B: 3-5, 2B, 2RBI

Jace Peterson – SS: 1-5, RBI, K

Rymer Liriano – LF: 0-4, 2K

Matt Wisler – SP: 5.0 IP, 4H, ER, BB, 7K, HR Allowed

Jesse Hahn – RP: 2.2 IP, 2H, 0R, BB, 3K (S, 1)

Notes: Cory Spangenberg enjoyed his best game of the 2014 season; he saw his average rise to .318 and he laced his first double of the year. Travis Jankowski enjoyed his best game as well. Jankowski got off to a bit of a slow start, but he is now hitting .273. On the mound, Matt Wisler was sharp; he would have got the win had the bullpen not surrendered a run.

Lake Elsinore Storm 11, High Desert Mavericks 9

Alberth Martinez – CF: 2-5, HR(2), 3RBI, 2 Runs scored

Casey McElroy – 2B: 1-5, RBI, K, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 3-5, RBI, K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – DH: 1-4, BB, K, Run scored

Luis Domoromo – LF: 1-4, 3B, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Stephen Carmon – SS: 2-3, HR(1), RBI, BB, 3 Runs scored

Joe Ross – SP: 6.0 IP, 3H, 0ER, 0BB, 4K (W, 1-1)

Notes: Lots of good things to report about the Storm today. Joe Ross bounced back from his last start and tossed a gem with 6 scoreless innings. Ross didn’t walk a batter and only allowed 3 hits. It was also nice to see Hunter Renfroe smack 3 hits and Alberth Martinez continue his torrid start with another home run and his 9th, 10th, and 11th RBI’s. Every member of the Storm lineup had at least 1 hit.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Kane County Cougars 4

Mallex Smith – CF: 1-5, RBI, 2K

Josh VanMeter – 2B: 1-6, 2K

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 1-4, RBI, BB, K

Franchy Cordero – SS: 0-5, 2K

Ryan Miller – C: 2-5, 2B, K, Run scored

Walker Lockett – SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 3R, 0 ER, BB, K

Notes: Franchy Cordero continues to struggle coming off a 0-5 performance at the plate. Cordero’s average fell to .048 after this game; he has just 1 hit over 21 AB’s. Dustin Peterson has hit safely in all 5 games for the TinCaps; he’s driven in at least 1 run in 3 of his last 4 games.
