Daily Farm Round-Up: 4-9-14

It was another night full of strong offensive performances all around the farm. Alberth Martinez continued to swing a hot bat for the Storm while Dane Phillips collected 4 hits and 3 RBI’s for the TinCaps.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Alberth Martinez/Dane Phillips

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Juan Pablo Oramas

El Paso Chihuahuas 3, Tacoma Rainiers 4

Reymond Fuentes – LF: 0-5, K

Rico Noel – CF: 1-4, BB

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 2-4, Run scored

Kyle Blanks – 1B: 2-4, HR(3), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Alex Castellanos – 3B: 1-4, K

Code Decker – DH: 1-3, HR(1), RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Juan Pablo Oramas – SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, ER, BB, 5K, HR Allowed

Kevin Quackenbush – RP: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 0K

Notes: Kyle Blanks homered for the 3rd straight game. He’s been tearing it up with the Chihuahuas, and if Tommy Medica continues to struggle in the bench role with the Padres, it would not be a surprise to see Blanks take his spot on the big league roster. Juan Oramas rebounded nicely after a trying first start to the season. Oramas pitched well enough for the win, but unfortunately the bullpen couldn’t hang on.

San Antonio Missions: DNP

Lake Elsinore Storm 4, High Desert Mavericks 10

Alberth Martinez – CF: 3-4, HR(3), 3RBI, K, Run scored

Casey McElroy – 2B: 0-4

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-4, HR(2), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-4, 3K

Luis Domoromo – LF: 0-4, K

Stephen Carmon – SS: 1-3, Run scored

Zach Eflin – SP: 5.0 IP, 9H, 8ER, BB, 5K, 3 HR Allowed (L, 1-1)

Notes: It was an uncharacteristic outing from Zach Eflin. Eflin endured his worst start as a professional; he surrendered 8 runs and 3 home runs over 5 innings. Alberth Martinez is playing unbelievably well; he’s putting up video game numbers. Martinez has driven in a run in every single game this year; he’s already had 3 separate 3 RBI nights, and he’s driven in 6 runs over his last 2 games. After 7 games he is hitting .433 with 3 home runs and 14 RBI’s.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 7, Kane County Cougars 4

Mallex Smith – CF: 1-4, BB, K, Run scored

Josh VanMeter – SS: 0-3, 2BB, K

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 0-5, 2K

Fernando Perez- 2B: 1-5, 2RBI, K, Run scored

Jose Urena – RF: 1-4, HR(1), 2RBI, BB, Run scored

Dane Phillips – C: 4-5, 2B, HR(1), 3RBI, Run scored

Adrian De Horta – SP: 4.2 IP, 4H, 2ER, 0BB, 2K

Notes: Dane Phillips enjoyed one of the best games of career. Phillips hit the game tying home run in the 9th inning and drove in 3 of Fort Wayne’s 7 runs. Phillips is hitting .467 to start the year. Mallex Smith showed off his outstanding speed tonight with 3 steals. Now that Billy Hamilton is playing in the majors with the Reds, it’s quite possible that Smith could end up leading all of the minor leagues in steals at the season’s end.
