Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-10-14

The pitching was bad across all 4 levels of the farm tonight as the farm teams combined to go 0-5. The offenses around the farm weren’t much better as the Chihuahuas and the TinCaps scored the most runs with 4 apiece.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Duanel Jones

Pitching Prospect of the Day: None

El Paso Chihuahuas 4, Albuquerque Isotopes 8

Alex Castellanos – CF: 1-5, HR(2), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Jonathan Galvez – 3B: 2-5, HR(2), RBI, K, Run scored

Tommy Medica – LF: 2-4, 2B, RBI, K

Cody Decker – 1B: 1-3, 2B, BB, K

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 2-4, HR(6), RBI, Run scored

Tyler Greene – 2B: 3-4

Matt Wisler – SP: 3.1 IP, 8H, 6R, 5ER, BB, 5K, 3 HR Allowed

Notes: Matt Wisler has struggled in both his starts with the Chihuahuas; he was not able to make it through the 4th inning in either start. The one positive of this start was that Wisler struck out 5 over 3.1 innings pitched, but the hitter friendly PCL has been too much for him thus far. The Chihuahuas swatted 3 home runs tonight, but all 3 were of the solo variety resulting in just 4 runs scored.

Game 1: San Antonio Missions 2, Midland RockHounds 8

Adam Buschini – 2B: 0-3, 2K

Rymer Liriano – CF: 1-2, BB, K

Jason Hagerty – DH: 1-3, 2B, RBI, Run scored

Austin Hedges – C: 1-3, K

Yeison Asencio – RF: 1-3, 3B, K

Lee Orr – 1B: 0-3, 2K

Devin Jones – SP: 5.0 IP, 9H, 7ER, 1BB, 3K, 2 HR Allowed

Game 2: San Antonio Missions 2, Midland RockHounds 7

Reymond Fuentes – CF: 1-3, 2B, 2K

Adam Buschini – 3B: 3-4, RBI

Rymer Liriano – LF: 0-2, BB, K

Jason Hagerty – C: 1-3

Brian Bixler – SS: 1-2, BB, 2 Runs scored

Yeison Asencio – RF: 0-3

John Hussey – SP: 5.0 IP, 7H, 5ER, 3BB, 4K (L, 1-2)

Notes: The Missions struggled in both games as they got swept in the double header. The offense had just 3 extra base hits over the 2 games while the pitching allowed 18 runs. One positive is the continued solid play of Rymer Liriano who reached base 3 times over the 2 games. Liriano is hitting .324 over his last 10 games and has raised his average to .248 after a heavy slump to begin the season.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8

Alberth Martinez – CF: 1-4, 2B, BB

Benji Gonzales – SS: 1-4, K

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 2-5, K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 2-4, HR(5), RBI, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Duanel Jones – 1B: 4-4, 2B, RBI

Jeremy Rodriguez – C: 1-4, 2B

Bryan Rodriguez – SP: 5.2 IP, 7H, 5R, 4ER, 4BB, K (L, 0-3)

Notes: On a night where the pitching wasn’t particularly sharp the Storm hitters couldn’t get anything going with RISP as they went 2-for-10 in that department. Duanel Jones had a perfect night at the plate as he went 4-for-4 with a double and 3 singles.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 4, Dayton Dragons 6

Ronnie Richardson – RF: 0-5, K, Run scored

Mallex Smith – CF: 1-3, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Fernando Perez – 2B: 2-4, 3RBI, K

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 1-4, K, Run scored

Dane Phillips – DH: 1-4

Jake Bauers – 1B: 0-3, BB

Erik Cabrera – SP: 3.0 IP, 7H, 3ER, BB, 3K, HR Allowed

Notes: Fernando Perez had another productive day at the plate as he drove in 3 runs; Perez has driven in 13 runs over his last 10 games. Following tonight’s game, Perez now has the most RBI’s in the Midwest League with 28. Perez is also 5th in average, 8th in slugging pct, and 4th in hits.
