Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-12-13

Highlighted by Rodney Daal’s perfect night at the plate, the TinCaps put up a crooked number on the board and beat the Dragons 13-7. The Storm have been a mess this year and they continued to struggle as they were shutout 8-0. Matt Wisler made his San Antonio debut and performed well as he collected the victory. Tucson won a close one against the Round Rock Express largely due to a start by Sean O’Sullivan in which he threw 5 innings with 0 earned runs.

Jaff Decker-CF: 0-2, 2BB, Run scored

Sean O’Sullivan-SP: 5.0 IP, 6H, 4R, 0ER, 3BB, 2K

Notes: James Darnell’s massive slump continues; with his 0-5 performance tonight, he is hitless over his last 4 games and has collected just 1 hit over his last 6 games. He is 1-25 over that span. His average has fallen to just barely above the Mendoza Line at .204. Daniel Robertson has been solid all year; with a double tonight he extended his hitting streak to 9 games and is hitting .322 on the year.

San Antonio Missions 8, Midland RockHounds 3

Rico Noel-CF: 1-4, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 1-5, 2RBI, 2K, Run scored

Everett Williams-LF: 1-4, RBI, BB, 2K, Run scored

Adam Buschini-2B: 3-4, 2b, 2 Runs scored

Matt Wisler-SP: 5.0 IP, 2H, 3ER, 3BB, 6K HR Allowed (W, 1-0)

Notes: Matt Wisler experienced success in his first start with San Antonio. He allowed just 2 hits over 5 innings while he collected 6 strikeouts and the victory. Kalian Sams continues to swing a hot bat; since joining San Antonio on May 5th, Sans has crushed 4 home runs and driven in 10 runs over just 5 games.

Lake Elsinore Storm 0, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-4

Yeison Asencio-RF: 1-3, BB, K

Robert Kral-DH: 1-4, K

Lee Orr-1B: 0-4, 2K

James Needy-SP: 5.0 IP, 8H, 3ER, BB, 4K, HR Allowed (L, 0-1)

Matt Lollis-RP: 1.0 IP, H, 0R

Notes: Really nothing positive about this game; the Storm could only collect 6 hits and couldn’t scratch across a run, the pitching staff allowed 8 earned runs and the defense collected 2 errors. For a club that was hyped to seemingly have a top prospect at every position at the start of the season they have been extremely disappointing. With the loss tonight, their record fell to a dismal 12-24.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 13, Dayton Dragons 7

Corey Adamson-RF: 0-3, 2K, 2 Runs scored

Alberth Martinez-CF: 2-5, 2RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored

Gabriel Quintana-3B: 2-6, 2b, 2K, 2 Runs scored

Ruben Mejia-SP: 5.1 IP, 4H, ER, 4BB, 4K (W, 2-3)

Notes: Rodney Daal was an absolute monster tonight; he tripled his home run total and drove in 4 runs all while having a perfect night at the plate. Jeremy Baltz also had a nice night at the plate as he drove in 3 runs; he’s done a nice job driving in runs this year as his RBI total is now at 25 over just 30 games. With the win tonight, the TinCaps improved their record to an impressive 21-13.
