Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-17-13
Both Fort Wayne and Tucson won by 1 run, but in very different fashions. Fort Wayne won off the strength of a strong pitching performance by starter Zach Eflin while Tucson relied on its relentless lineup to provide them with a victory. Lake Elsinore lost their 5th in a row despite a strong performance from Cory Spangenberg and San Antonio was blown out in Matt Wisler’s second Missions start.
Hitting Prospect of the Day: Cory Spangenberg
Pitching Prospect of the Day: Zach Eflin
Tucson Padres 9, Iowa Cubs 8
Dean Anna-2B: 4-5, RBI, K, 3 Runs scored
Dan Robertson-RF: 3-5, 2b, RBI, K, 3 Runs scored
Gregorio Petit-SS: 2-5, 3RBI

Jaff Decker-CF: 0-3, 2K
Robbie Erlin-SP: 4.2 IP, 12H, 6R, 4ER, 0BB, 4K, HR Allowed
Notes: After losing by 1 run last night, the T-Pads return the favor after narrowly winning a shootout against the Iowa Cubs. Jonathan Galvez collected his 3rd 3-hit game over the past 5 days as he raised his average over .300. Rene Rivera has been ridiculously hot, he’s putting up videogame numbers; Rivera has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games. All 9 of those games are multi-hit games; his average is an astounding .611 (not a typo) over that span (22-36). His ridiculous hitting success recently has boosted his average to .414 on the year over 99 AB’s.
San Antonio Missions 1, Frisco RoughRiders 12
Reymond Fuentes-RF: 0-3, 2K
Rico Noel-CF: 0-4, K
Everett Williams-LF: 2-2, 2BB

Eddy Rodriguez-C: 1-3, HR(2), RBI, K, Run scored
Matt Wisler-SP: 4.0 IP, 6H, 5ER, 2BB, 5K, 2 HR Allowed (L, 1-1)
Notes: Aside from Everett Williams getting on base all 4 times he was at the plate and Eddy Rodriguez’s home run, there was nothing positive about the Missions’ performance tonight. Matt Wisler was not sharp at all in his second Texas League start, every reliever gave up at least 1 earned run, and the offense as a whole only collected 6 hits. The blowout loss moves the Missions’ record down to 21-20.
Lake Elsinore Storm 8, Modesto Nuts 12

Notes: Cory Spangenberg stays hot at the plate as he drove in 2 more runs to raise his RBI total to 21 which ranks 3rd among California League 2nd basemen. Spangenberg’s .306 average gives him he 8th highest average in the California league. Matt Lollis gave up a rare earned run today; in 24.2 innings Lollis has allowed to just 4 earned runs, good for a 1.46 ERA.
Fort Wayne TinCaps 4, Lake County Captains 3

With his solid start tonight, Eflin lowered his ERA to 4.73 over 32.1 innings. Dane Phillips continues to hit well; he reached base 3 times tonight while raising his average to .303.
