Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-17-14

The Storm won a pitchers duel due to an outstanding start from Joe Ross and a timely hit from Gabriel Quintana. Rymer Liriano hit his first career grand slam en route to a blow out victory for the Missions.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Rymer Liriano

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Joe Ross

El Paso Chihuahuas 4, Las Vegas 51s 6

Rico Noel – CF: 0-3, BB, K

Jonathan Galvez – 3B: 1-4, HR(3), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Brooks Conrad – 2B: 1-4, 2K, Run scored

Tyler Greene – SS: 1-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Notes: Impressively, the Chihuahuas managed to score 4 runs despite being 0-for-8 with RISP. Those 4 runs wouldn’t be enough, however, as Juan Oramas didn’t have his best stuff tonight. Oramas allowed 5 runs and 9 baserunners over just 3 innings pitched.

San Antonio Missions 8, Corpus Christi Hooks 1

Reymond Fuentes – CF: 1-5, RBI, 3K, Run scored

Adam Buschini – 2B: 1-4, K, Run scored

Austin Hedges – C: 1-4, RBI, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – LF: 1-3, K, Run scored

Jesse Hahn – SP: 4.0 IP, 5H, ER, 1BB, 2K

Notes: Rymer Liriano is the first in the Padres organization to double-digit home runs. Liriano hit his first career grand slam tonight and raised his RBI total to 27 which is good for 5th in the Texas League. His 10 home runs rank 2nd in the Texas League. Over his last 2 starts, Jesse Hahn has tossed 7 innings with just 1 earned run and 7 strikeouts. Hahn owns a 3.04 ERA over 23.2 innings pitched on the year.

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Modesto Nuts 1

Alberth Martinez – CF: 1-4

Jeremy Baltz – DH: 2-4, Run scored

Diego Goris – SS: 1-3, 2K

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-3, K, Run scored

John Nester – C: 0-3

Joe Ross – SP: 5.1 IP, 5H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 8K (W, 4-2)

Notes: Gabriel Quintana provided all the offense for the Storm tonight with a 2-run double in the 4th that scored Hunter Renfroe and Jeremy Baltz. Those 2 runs would be all the Storm with a dominant Joe Ross on the mound. Over his first 9 starts of the year, Ross is 4-2 with a 2.39 ERA and 49 strikeouts over 49 innings pitched.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 2, South Bend Silver Hawks 4

Chase Jensen – SS: 1-3

Erik Cabrera – SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, 4R, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, HR Allowed (L, 0-3)

Notes: Erik Cabrera didn’t help himself today as he committed 3 errors. The offense didn’t do much either with just 2 runs scored, but Cabrera’s errors allowed 2 unearned runs to score. Fernando Perez is hitting .366 over his last 10 games, which has brought his average up to .344 on the year.
