Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-20-14

Sorry I haven’t posted over the past couple of days – I was quite busy. All 3 games down on the farm were close today with the Chihuahuas and Storm coming out victorious and the TinCaps losing by 1 despite a 3 RBI performance from Henry Charles.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Henry Charles

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Jason Lane

El Paso Chihuahuas 3, Sacramento River Cats 2

Jace Peterson – SS: 2-5, 2 2B, K, Run scored

Brooks Conrad – 2B: 0-3, 3K, Run scored

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 2-4, 2RBI, K

Jake Goebbert – LF: 0-4, K

Adam Moore – C: 1-2, RBI, BB

Tommy Medica – 1B: 0-4

Jason Lane – SP: 7.0 IP, 8H, ER, 0BB, 5K (W, 4-4)

Notes: After a hot start to the season, Jason Lane had been struggling in the month of May. Tonight, however, Lane was stellar as he threw 7 innings of 1-run ball. Lane’s 7 innings pitched tied a season high. Jace Peterson has found his groove with the Chihuahuas; Peterson is hitting .345 with 1 home run and 7 RBI over his last 10 games. Over 109 minor league AB’s Peterson is hitting .312 with 19 walks and 18 K’s.

San Antonio Missions: DNP

Lake Elsinore Storm 4, High Desert Mavericks 2

Alberth Martinez – CF: 1-4, Run scored

Jeremy Baltz – LF: 2-3, 2RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K

Diego Goris – SS: 0-4, RBI

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-4, 3K

Duanel Jones – 1B: 1-4, 2K

Bryce Morrow – SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 2R, 0ER, 0BB, 4K

Notes: Jeremy Baltz had his first multi-RBI game since returning back to the Storm. Baltz did well with the Storm last year hitting .309 over 262 AB’s with 10 home runs. If he continues that success for the first half of this year, he could see himself playing with San Antonio sooner rather than later. Bryce Morrow started his first game of the year today (he made 14 previous appearances as a reliever with the Storm) and threw 5 innings without allowing an earned run.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 6, Lake County Captains 7

Mallex Smith – CF: 1-3, 2BB, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 0-2, 2K

Fernando Perez – 2B: 0-4, 2K

Franmil Reyes – RF: 2-3, BB, Run scored

Dane Phillips – DH: 1-4, 2B, RBI, Run scored

Henry Charles – LF: 2-4, 3B, HR(1), 3RBI, 2 Runs scored

Coby Cowgill – SP: 2.2 IP, 7H, 5ER, 3BB, 2K

Notes: Mallex Smith stole 3 bases today to bring his total up to an impressive 33. His 33 stolen bases are number 1 in the Midwest League, he’s 10 stolen bases ahead of the next closest player. The loss tonight extended Fort Wayne’s losing streak to 6 games.
