Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-21-13

Both affiliates who played tonight, Tucson and Lake Elsinore, participated in extra inning matchups. Unfortunately for the Storm, their struggles continued as they lost a 17 inning game. The Storm pulled ahead in the 13th and 16th innings, but their bullpen was unable to shut the door. On the other hand, Tucson managed to win their extra inning contest due to a great start from Clayton Richard and 3 scoreless innings from the bullpen.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jace Peterson

Pitching Player of the Day: Clayton Richard

Tucson Padres 5, Omaha Storm Chasers 2

Dean Anna-2B: 0-4, BB, 2 Runs scored

Dan Robertson-RF: 1-3, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Yasmani Grandal-C: 1-5, RBI, 2K

Brandon Allen-1B: 0-4, 2RBI, 2K

Gregorio Petit-SS: 1-3, RBI, 2BB

Jonathan Galvez-3B: 1-4, BB, K

Clayton Richard-SP: 6.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, 0BB, 4K

Brad Brach-RP: 1.1 IP, 0H, 0R, K (W, 1-0)

Notes: Tucson managed to beat the Storm Chasers 5-2 in 10 innings. Oddly enough, the T-Pads managed to score 3 runs in the 10th and take the lead without recording a single hit. Two pitchers who have pitched with the big league club already this year, Clayton Richard and Brad Brach, made appearances with Tucson. Richard, who was making his second rehab start, threw his second straight quality start. Richard has a 2.25 ERA and 12 K’s in 12 innings with no walks for the T-Pads. Brach made his first appearance with Tucson after being sent down; he did well as he threw 1.1 no-hit innings and recorded the victory.

San Antonio Missions: DNP

Lake Elsinore Storm 11, Stockton Ports 9

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 2-8, 3b, RBI, BB, K

Yeison Asencio-RF: 2-9, 2 Runs scored

Robert Kral-C: 1-7, HR(9), 2RBI, 2BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Luis Domoromo-LF: 0-6, 2BB, 3K

Jace Peterson-SS: 4-8, 2b, BB, Run scored

Duanel Jones-3B: 2-5, K, Run scored

Travis Whitmore-1B: 3-7, 2b, RBI, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Travis Jankowski-CF: 2-8, RBI, 4K

Trevor Holder-SP: 4.0 IP, 9H, 4ER, 2BB, 3K

Notes: Good teams find ways to win and bad teams find ways to lose. This was the case in the marathon 17 inning game for the Storm tonight. Despite driving in go ahead RBI’s in the 13th and the 16th innings, Lake Elsinore was unable to close the game out as relievers Matt Lollis and Matt Branham allowed the Ports to comeback and tie and John Hussey allowed the Ports to win via walk off home run. The loss moves Lake Elsinore’s record to a pitiful 13-31 on the season.
