Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-21-14

Offense was at a premium throughout the whole Padres organization tonight. The Chihuahuas, Missions, Storm, and TinCaps combined to score 9 runs tonight.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Franmil Reyes

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Odrisamer Despaigne

El Paso Chihuahuas 1, Sacramento River Cats 4

Jace Peterson – SS: 1-2, 2B, 2BB, K, Run scored

Jonathan Galvez – 3B: 0-4, 2K

Jake Goebbert – LF: 0-4, 2K

Adam Moore – DH: 2-4, RBI, K

Tyler Greene – 2B: 1-3, BB

Rocky Gale – C: 1-3, K

Matt Wisler – SP: 2.0 IP, 5H, 4ER, 2BB, 2K (L, 0-3)

Notes: This was Matt Wisler’s shortest start at the Triple-A level. Over his first 4 starts, Wisler hasn’t proven to be up to the task of handling the Pacific Coast League. Since being called up, the only positive for him is that he has maintained a high strikeout rate. Jace Peterson continues to hit for a high average; he is hitting .367 with 10 walks over his last 10 games.

San Antonio Missions 2, NW Arkansas Naturals 0

Reymond Fuentes – CF: 1-4, HR(1), RBI, K, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – RF: 3-4, 2B, K

Rymer Liriano – LF: 1-3, BB, K

Jason Hagerty – 1B: 1-4, HR(4), RBI, K, Run scored

Austin Hedges – C: 0-4, K

Brian Bixler – SS: 1-3, K

Odrisamer Despaigne – SP: 4.2 IP, 2H, 0ER, 3BB, 6K

Johnny Barbato – RP: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 2K (S, 12)

Notes: Odrisamer Despaigne has now impressed over his first 2 professional starts. Despaigne struck out 6 for the second start in a row and has only allowed 1 run over 7.2 innings pitched. Reymond Fuentes hit his first home run of the year, a go-ahead shot in the 8th inning, and Jason Hagerty put the cherry on top with a home run of his own in the 9th as the Missions won 2-0.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, High Desert Mavericks 4

Alberth Martinez – CF: 1-4, HR(5), 2RBI, BB, Run scored

Jeremy Baltz – LF: 0-5, K, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-4, 2B, RBI, 2K

Diego Goris – SS: 1-4, 2K

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-4, K

John Nester – C: 2-4, 2B, Run scored

Bryan Rodriguez – SP: 4.0 IP, 6H, 4R, 3ER, 2BB, 6K (L, 0-4)

Notes: Hunter Renfroe now has 30 RBI’s on the year which ranks 11th in the California league. Bryan Rodriguez endured arguably his worst start of the year tonight. His 4 innings pitched were a season low, and he had only allowed 4 runs or more in one other start. Despite the poor start, Rodriguez’s ERA still stands at a more than solid 2.88.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Lake County Captains 10

Mallex Smith – CF: 0-4, 2K

Josh VanMeter – 2B: 1-4

Fernando Perez – 3B: 1-4, Run scored

Franmil Reyes – RF: 2-4, 2B, HR(5), 2RBI, Run scored

Dane Phillips – DH: 0-4

Jake Bauers – 1B: 2-4, 2 2B, Run scored

Walker Weickel – SP: 6.0 IP, 8H, 5ER, 2BB, 3K, HR Allowed (L, 1-6)

Notes: It was another disappointing start for Walker Weickel. Weickel, who drafted in the supplemental first round by the Padres in 2012, only has 1 quality start this year. His ERA is 7.17 over 9 starts and 42.2 innings pitched. Jake Bauers continues to swing a hot bat. His two hit night raised his average to .351 over 74 AB’s.
