Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-25-13

It was a bad night for Padres affiliates as every single minor league team lost. Walker Weickel was decent, yet the TinCaps were outscored by the Hot Rods 5-3. In Lake Elsinore, Frank Garces tossed a quality start, but the bullpen could not hold down the lead. Tucson lost in similar fashion as Brad Brach blew the game late as he allowed 3 home runs in just 1 inning of work. San Antonio’s offense was unable to get on track as the Missions lost 4-1.

Dean Anna-2B: 2-5, BB, K

Dan Robertson-RF: 2-5, Run scored

Gregorio Petit-SS: 1-6, 2RBI

Brandon Kloess-SP: 5.2 IP, 5H, ER, BB, 6K

Brad Brach-RP: 1.0 IP, 3H, 3ER, 2K, 3 HR Allowed (L, 1-1)

Notes: Brad Brach’s struggles have continued at the minor league level. After throwing 1.1 scoreless innings to debut with the T-Pads, Brad Brach has been nothing short of awful. In 2 appearances since, Brach has thrown 2 innings in which he’s allowed 5 runs. His ERA is 13.50 with the T-Pads. Yasmani Grandal continues to hit well with the T-Pads; he has collected a hit in every game that he has started.

San Antonio Missions 1, NW Arkansas Naturals 4

Reymond Fuentes-CF: 0-3, BB, K

Rico Noel-RF: 2-3, K

Everett Williams-LF: 1-4, K, Run scored

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 1-3, K

Jose De Paula-SP: 5.0 IP, 8H, 4ER, BB, 3K (L, 3-5)

Notes: After an excellent start to the year, Jose De Paula has struggled recently. In 3 of his last 4 starts he’s given up at least 4 earned runs. However, he’s gone at least 5 innings in every single start this year (10 starts in total) and his ERA is solid at 3.60. Reymond Fuentes lost his 6 game hitting streak as he went 0-3. Kalian Sams has cooled down after a torrid start; Sams has not collected a hit since May 19th.

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Modesto Nuts 6

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-4, BB

Travis Jankowski-CF: 2-3, BB, Run scored

Justin Miller-1B: 0-3, BB

Yeison Asencio-RF: 2-4, 2b, Run scored

Jace Peterson-SS: 0-3, BB

Luis Domoromo-DH: 1-4, 2RBI

Frank Garces-SP: 6.0 IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, 6K, HR Allowed

Matt Lollis-RP: 1.1 IP, 3H, ER, BB, K (BS, 4)(L, 2-3)

Notes: Frank Garces has been solid all of this year. He has 52 strikeouts over just 43 innings pitched and has allowed 2 runs or less in 6 of his 9 starts. Unfortunately, in the start where he’s allowing more than 2 runs, he has trouble limiting the damage. His ERA is 3.98 on the year. Travis Jankowski is getting hot; he has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games and has raised his average to .269.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 5

Mallex Smith-CF: 2-4, HR(2), RBI, Run scored

Maxx Tissenbaum-2B: 0-4

Gabriel Quintana-3B: 1-4, 3K

Dane Phillips-C: 1-4, K

Jeremy Baltz-DH: 1-4, 2b, K

Stephen Carmon-SS: 2-3, 2b, HR(1), RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored

Alberth Martinez-LF: 2-4, 2b, RBI

Walker Weickel-SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, 3ER, 3BB, 4K (L, 0-3)

Notes: Weickel has had a bit of an up and down year. He rebounded after allowing 7 runs in under 4 innings in his previous start, but he was unable to throw a quality start. He’s only thrown 1 quality start on the year. After 8 starts and 34.2 innings pitched, Weickel owns a 5.45 ERA and has stuck out just 24. After going hitless for 2 straight games, Dane Philips collected a single in this game. He has been slumping recently as he is hitting .216 over his past 10 games.
