Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-29-14

The Padres 2013 draft class was highlighted by the selections of Hunter Renfroe and Dustin Peterson. So far in 2014, those two have not disappointed. Peterson provided the offense again tonight in the TinCaps’ 3-2 victory while the Storm lost despite Renfroe’s organization leading 13th home run.

Notes: Michael Nix has been surprisingly effective in his first 2 starts with the Chihuahuas. Over those 2 starts, Nix has thrown 13 innings and only allowed 3 earned runs while collecting 2 victories. Jake Goebbert, who was acquired from the A’s in exchange for Kyle Blanks, has now driven in a run in back-to-back games. In his first 14 games with the Chihuahuas, Goebbert is hitting .200 with 2 home runs and 9 RBI’s.

Austin Hedges – C: 0-4, K
Jesse Hahn – SP: 5.0 IP, 1H, 0ER, 0BB, 3K (W, 2-1)
Notes: Jesse Hahn enjoyed his best start with the Missions in this game. Hahn, who was acquired from the Rays along with Alex Torres for Logan Forsythe and Brad Boxberger among others, has been very solid so far in his Missions career. Due to Hahn’s prior injury history, the Padres have been careful with Hahn’s pitch count; tonight’s start was the first in which Hahn went at least 5 innings. Over his last 2 starts, Hahn has tossed 9 innings while only allowing 3 hits and no runs.
Lake Elsinore Storm 3, Lancaster JetHawks 5
Corey Adamson – DH: 0-3, BB, K
Alberth Martinez – CF: 0-4, K
Diego Goris – SS: 1-4, HR(8), RBI, Run scored
Hunter Renfroe – RF: 2-4, 2B, HR(13), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Notes: Hunter Renfroe hit his 13th home run tonight, which moved him into a tie for the home run lead in the California League. Renfroe also drove in his 41st RBI, which ranks 4th in the California League. Renfroe has really been in a groove at the plate; he is hitting .359 with 5 home runs and 13 RBI over his last 10 games.
Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 2
Mallex Smith – CF: 2-5, K
Dustin Peterson – 3B: 2-4, RBI

Erik Cabrera – SP: 6.0 IP, 5H, 2R, 0ER, BB, 4K (W, 2-3)
Notes: Dustin Peterson’s bat stayed red hot during the TinCaps’ victory tonight. Peterson’s 42 RBI lead the Midwest League; he’s driven in at least 1 run in 6 of his last 7 games, and he’s driven in 13 runs over his last 10 games. He hasn’t hit a ton of home runs (4), but he has been extremely productive with Fort Wayne. Jake Bauers hit his 3rd triple of the year tonight, a rare feat for a 1st baseman so early in the year.
