Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-3-13

Thad Weber experienced a disastrous start with the T-Pads as Tucson lost 8-4. Burch Smith yet again shut down the opposing lineup as he only allowed 1 hit over 5.1 innings, but the Missions squandered away their lead and the game as they lost 5-4 to the RoughRiders. Luis Domoromo provided the offensive firepower for the second night in a row, yet it was not enough for Lake Elsinore as they lost 8-3. Fort Wayne’s game was postponed due to rain.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Luis Domoromo

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Burch Smith

Tucson Padres 4, Salt Lake Bees 8

Daniel Robertson-CF: 1-4

Travis Buck-DH: 2-3, HR(3), 2RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored

James Darnell-LF: 1-4, 2b, RBI, K

Dean Anna-2B: 2-5, 2b, K, Run scored

Jonathan Galvez-2B: 1-3, BB, K

Brandon Allen-1B: 0-4, K

Jaff Decker-RF: 0-4, 3K

Thad Weber-SP: 4.1 IP, 10H, 7ER, BB, 3K (L, 3-1)

Tyson Ross-RP: 1.0 IP, H, ER, K

Notes: Thad Weber suffered his worst start of the year; it was the first start in which he was unable to go at least 5 innings and allowed over 4 runs. Tyson Ross pitched one inning of relief, and while he did allow an earned run, he struck a batter out and threw 11 of his 16 pitches for strikes. James Darnell has collected a hit in each of the 4 games he’s played in since coming back from injury.

San Antonio Missions 4, Frisco RoughRiders 5

Reymond Fuentes-RF: 0-4, BB, K, Run scored, SB(12)

Rico Noel-CF: 2-4, 2b, 2RBI, 2K, 2 Runs scored, 3 SB(18)

Everett Williams-LF: 2-4, RBI, BB, K

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 1-4, 2K

Cody Decker-1B: 0-4, BB, 2K

Eddy Rodriguez-C: 0-3, BB, 2K

Burch Smith-SP: 5.1 IP, H, 2R, 0ER, 2BB, 6K

Kevin Quackenbush-RP: 1.0 IP, H, R, 0ER, BB, K

Josh Geer-RP: 1.2 IP, H, R, 0ER, BB, 2K

Notes: The Missions were determined to not give Burch Smith tonight. Despite the fact that Smith dominated the RoughRiders over 5.1 innings in which he only allowed 1 hit and 2 walks, the Missions could only put up 5 hits all night. They did score 4 runs, however, but the defense let them down. An error contributed to two unearned runs for Smith and then an error blew the save for the usually reliable Quackenbush and another error lost the game for Josh Geer. Burch Smith has a 1.15 ERA over 6 outstanding starts but only has a 1-2 record to show for it. Jeudy Valdez committed his 10th error of the year.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, Inland Empire 66ers 8

Travis Jankowski-CF: 0-4, K

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 2-4, Run scored

Lee Orr-1B: 1-3, 3b, BB, 2K, Run scored

Luis Domoromo-LF: 2-4, 2b, HR(1), 3RBI, Run scored

Yeison Asencio-DH: 0-4

Austin Hedges-C: 0-3, BB

Colin Rea-SP: 4.0 IP, 4H, 5ER, 4BB, K (L, 0-3)

Notes: For the second night in a row Luis Domoromo collected a home run and 3 RBI. Over the past two games, he’s doubled his RBI count on the year and collected his first two home runs. With a 2 hit performance, Cory Spangenberg is now on a 4 game hitting streak; he’s batting .289 on the year. Austin Hedges’ 0-3 performance lowered his average to .229. However, he is hitting .303 over his last 10 games which will hopefully be a trend that he can continue.
