Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-31-14

The bats were hot on the Padre farm tonight! The TinCaps scored the least amount of runs among the 4 minor league teams with 8. Hunter Renfroe smashed 2 home runs in the Storm victory. Every member of the Chihuahuas lineup and the Missions lineup had at least 1 hit.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Hunter Renfroe

Notes: The Chihuahuas went into the bottom of the 6th down 8-2 and staged a ferocious comeback to end up winning this game 11-10. Brooks Conrad highlighted a 5-run 6th inning for the Chihuahuas with a 3-run home run, his 11th of the year. Jace Peterson’s 4-hit game raised his average to .354 over 24 games with the Chihuahuas.

San Antonio Missions 12, Arkansas Travelers 4

Reymond Fuentes – CF: 2-3, HR(4), 3RBI, BB, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – RF: 2-5, K

Rymer Liriano – LF: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 Runs scored

Matt Branham – SP: 5.1 IP, 8H, 4ER, 0BB, 4K (W, 4-1)

Adys Portillo – RP: 2.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, K

Notes: Rymer Liriano broke a 4 game hitless streak with a double in the 4th inning of this game. Reymond Fuentes has turned a corner since being demoted to the Missions. Fuentes is hitting .286 over 84 AB’s with the Missions after hitting .198 over 91 AB’s with the Chihuahuas. Adys Portillo has been outstanding out of the bullpen. Portillo appeared in 11 games and threw 14.2 innings in May. During that time he did not allow a singe earned run; his May ERA was 0.00. You can’t do better than that.

Lake Elsinore Storm 9, Visalia Rawhide 7

Benji Gonzalez – SS: 3-4, 2B, BB, Run scored

Diego Goris – DH: 2-5, 2 Runs scored

Hunter Renfroe – CF: 3-5, 2 HR(15), 6RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Duanel Jones – 1B: 4-5, HR(2), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 1-4, BB, K

Luis Domoromo – RF: 1-5, HR(4), RBI, K, Run scored

Bryan Rodriguez – SP: 5.0 IP, 6H, 7ER, 2BB, 2K, HR Allowed

Notes: Hunter Renfroe is arguably the hottest player in all of the minor leagues right now. Over his last 10 games, Renfroe has hit 7 home runs and has 17 RBI’s. Those are video game numbers. Over 221 AB’s with Lake Elsinore, Renfroe is hitting .290 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI’s. Renfroe is no slump on the basepaths either as he has 9 stolen bases in 11 attempts. Renfroe truly has a chance to be a 5 tool player.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 8, West Michigan Whitecaps 6

Josh VanMeter – SS: 0-5, K

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 1-5, HR(5), RBI, K, Run scored

Fernando Perez – 2B: 1-5, 2B, Run scored

Adolfo Reina – C: 1-5, HR(1), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Kyle Lloyd – SP: 5.0 IP, 7H, 5R, 3ER, 2BB, 6K

Tayron Guerrero – RP: 0.1 IP, 0H, 0R, 0K (W, 4-0)

Notes: Dustin Peterson’s home run tonight extended his hitting streak and RBI streak to 4. Peterson has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games and has driven in a run in 8 of his last 9 games. The Padres’ top 2 picks in 2013, Peterson and Renfroe, have combined for 20 home runs and 91 RBI’s over the first 2 months of the season. Jake Bauers has collected multiple hits in each of his last 3 games and is on a 7 game hitting streak. Bauers impressively hit .379 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI’s in the month of May. What may be more impressive is that he did that as the youngest player in the Midwest League.
