Daily Farm Round-Up: 5-9-14

The Chihuahuas were the only team in the Padres organization to lose tonight. The Missions and the TinCaps won by 3 due to good pitching performances, while the Storm just hung on to beat the Quakes by 1.
Hitting Prospect of the Day: Fernando Perez
Pitching Prospect of the Day: James Needy
El Paso Chihuahuas 1, Fresno Grizzlies 8
Rico Noel – CF: 0-4, 3K
Jace Peterson – 3B: 0-3, K
Carlos Quentin – LF: 2-4, HR(1), RBI, Run scored
Cody Decker – 1B: 0-3, BB, K
Jeff Francoeur – RF: 0-4
Brooks Conrad – 2B: 0-3, K

Jeff Francoeur – RP: 1.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, K
Notes: Francoeur has made 4 appearances as a pitcher so far this season and has yet to allow a run. After going hitless the last two nights with the Chihuahuas, Carlos Quentin broke out tonight with a solo shot – the only run the Chihuahuas scored all game.
San Antonio Missions 4, Midland RockHounds 1
Reymond Fuentes – CF: 1-4, 2B, K, Run scored
Casey McElroy – 2B: 3-4, RBI, Run scored
Rymer Liriano – LF: 1-4, HR(7), 2RBI, 3K, Run scored
Jason Hagerty – 1B: 1-4, 2B, Run scored
Austin Hedges – C: 0-3, BB, K
Yeison Asencio – RF: 0-4
James Needy – SP: 6.0 IP, 8H, ER, 1BB, 5K, HR Allowed (W, 1-3)
Notes: Reymond Fuentes played his first game with the Missions this year after being sent down from El Paso. Fuentes was hitting .198 over 91 AB’s with El Paso, but he hit .316 over 345 AB’s with the Missions last year, so a quick trip down to San Antonio could be all he needs to get his bat back. Rymer Liriano has now homered in back-to-back games. Liriano has displayed plus power so far in 2014. He now has 7 home runs over 121 AB’s.
Lake Elsinore Storm 6, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 5
Alberth Martinez – CF: 1-3, BB, 2 Runs scored
Benji Gonzales – 2B: 0-2, BB
Chase Headley – DH: 2-4
Diego Goris – SS: 2-4, 2B, 2RBI, Run scored
Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-3, Run scored
Diego Goris – SS: 1-4, K
Matthew Shepherd – SP: 4.0 IP, 4H, 2ER, 2BB, 5K
Notes: Chase Headley has hit safely in 3 of the 4 games he’s played with the Storm. Headley has only played 4 games on his rehab assignment, so he’ll probably spend a few more days with Lake Elsinore. Alberth Martinez has been cold at the plate recently; Martinez is hitting just .211 over his last 10 games with just 1 RBI over that span.
Fort Wayne TinCaps 5, Dayton Dragons 2
Ronnie Richardson – LF: 2-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, BB, Run scored
Mallex Smith – CF: 1-4, 2B, RBI, 2K, Run scored
Fernando Perez – 2B: 2-4, HR(4), 2RBI, K, Run scored
Dustin Peterson – 3B: 2-4, K
Dane Phillips – DH: 0-4, K

Adrian De Horta – SP: 4.0 IP, 2H, 2ER, 6BB, 3K
Tayron Guerrero – RP: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 2K (H, 3)
Notes: Tayron Guerrero continues to excel with the TinCaps. Over 12 appearances Guerrero has tossed 17.2 innings while recording 23 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.53. Jake Bauers enjoyed another multi-hit effort as he raised his average up to .375 over 40 AB’s with the TinCaps.
