Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-1-14

Outside of Fort Wayne, there were good pitching performances all over the farm as Matt Wisler, James Needy, and Joe Ross all pitched well tonight. Unfortunately for the TinCaps, they were blown out 19-1.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Yeison Asencio

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Matt Wisler/James Needy

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Tacoma Rainiers 4

Jace Peterson – SS: 0-3, 2K

Brooks Conrad – 3B: 0-3, BB, 2K

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 1-4, RBI, K, Run scored

Alex Castellanos – CF: 1-3, BB, 2K

Jake Goebbert – LF: 1-3, RBI, BB, Run scored

Cody Decker – 1B: 1-4, 3B, 2RBI

Matt Wisler – SP: 6.0 IP, 5H, ER, 3BB, 2K (W, 2-3)

Notes: Make it two quality starts in a row for Matt Wisler. Wisler had a rough time adjusting to Triple-A, but over his last two starts he’s tossed 13 innings while allowing only 1 run. Jeff Francoeur continued his hot streak with a single and an RBI. Francoeur is hitting .368 with a home run and 9 RBI’s over his last 10 games.

San Antonio Missions 5, Arkansas Travelers 0

Reymond Fuentes – CF: 0-3, 2BB, 2K, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – RF: 2-4, HR(4), 3RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Casey McElroy – 2B: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2K, Run scored

Rymer Liriano – LF: 1-4, 2K

Jason Hagerty – DH: 0-4, K

Austin Hedges – C: 1-4, RBI

James Needy – SP: 5.2 IP, 7H, 0R, 2BB, 3K (W, 4-3)

Notes: Yeison Asencio has multiple hits in each of his last 4 games and is now on a 10 game hitting streak. Austin Hedges has endured a cold stretch at the plate that he’s seen him hit .135 (5-for-37) over his last 10 games. His RBI today was his 23rd of the year. James Needy has ben outstanding over his last 5 starts; over that time Needy is 4-0 and he hasn’t allowed more than 1 earned run in any start. On the year, Needy owns a 2.61 ERA over 51.2 innings pitched.

Lake Elsinore Storm 6, Visalia Rawhide 5

Benji Gonzalez – 2B: 0-6, 2K

Diego Goris – SS: 3-5, 2B, HR(9), RBI, 2 Runs scored

Hunter Renfroe – CF: 1-4, 2B, RBI, BB, K

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 2-5, 2K, Run scored

Dane Phillips – C: 2-3, HR(1), 2RBI, 2BB, 3 Runs scored

Luis Domoromo – RF: 1-4, BB, K

Joe Ross – SP: 6.0 IP, 4H, 3ER, 2BB, 4K, HR Allowed

Notes: Dane Phillips finally received the promotion that he deserved to Lake Elsinore and promptly homered in his first start. Last year, Phillips hit .173 with no home runs over 52 AB’s, so this is definitely a promising start. Gabriel Quintana produced his 4th multi-hit game over his last 6 games. Quintana is hitting .341 over his last 10 games, and .261 on the year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 1, West Michigan Whitecaps 19

Mallex Smith – CF: 0-3, K, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – DH: 1-4, RBI, 3K

Fernando Perez – 3B: 1-4, K

Franmil Reyes – RF: 1-4, K

Jake Bauers – 1B: 1-4, K

Payton Baskette – SP: 3.0 IP, 5H, 7R, 6ER, 5BB, 2K, HR Allowed

Notes: Outside of Dustin Peterson raising his league leading RBI total to 45, there was really nothing positive about this game. The TinCaps only got 6 hits, committed 3 errors, and got blown out 19-1. Dustin Peterson now has 15 RBI’s over his last 10 games and is hitting .356 over that span.
