Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-15-14

The Chihuahuas were the only team in the organization to get a W today. They benefited from a strong start from Donn Roach and the continued solid play of Brooks Conrad.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Donn Roach/Josh Geer

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Brooks Conrad

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Round Rock Express 4

Alex Castellanos – LF: 1-6, RBI, K

Brooks Conrad – 2B: 2-4, HR(14), RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Jake Goebbert – 1B: 0-5, K

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 2-5, 2B, K, Run scored

Travis Buck – DH: 2-4, 2B, RBI, K, Run scored

Jonathan Galvez – 3B: 1-3, 3B, BB, 2 Runs scored

Donn Roach – SP: 7.0 IP, 5H, 1ER, 1BB, 4K

Notes: It was another excellent start for Donn Roach with the Chihuahuas. Over his 2 minor league starts, Roach has tossed 12.2 innings and has only allowed 1 earned run while striking out 9. Alex Castellanos only had 1 hit in 6 AB’s today, but it was a pivotal one as he delivered a walk-off single in the 12th to send the crowd home happy.

San Antonio Missions 2, Corpus Christi Hooks 7

Adam Buschini – 2B: 0-2, 2BB

Yeison Asencio – RF: 1-4, Run scored

Rymer Liriano – CF: 1-4, K, Run scored

Austin Hedges – DH: 0-2, RBI

Cody Overbeck – 1B: 0-3, K

Brian Bixler – SS: 0-3

Josh Geer – SP: 7.0 IP, 5H, 3R, 0ER, 1BB, 3K (L, 2-7)

Adys Portillo – RP: 1.0 IP, 1H, 2ER, 2BB, K

Notes: After scoring 2 runs in the first inning, the Missions gave Josh Geer absolutely no chance to win this game. The Missions only managed to get 1 hit over their final 8 innings and committed 2 errors that allowed 3 unearned runs to score. After allowing 2 runs today, Adys Portillo has now allowed at least 1 run in 4 of his last 5 outings.

Lake Elsinore Storm: All Star Break

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 12

Ronnie Richardson – LF: 0-4, 2K, Run scored

Mallex Smith – CF: 2-4, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – DH: 2-4, K

Fernando Perez – 3B: 1-4, RBI, 2K

Franmil Reyes – RF: 0-4, 2K

Jake Bauers – 1B: 1-2, 2B, K

Walker Weickel – SP: 4.0 IP, 11H, 5R, 3ER, 0BB, 3K, HR Allowed (L, 1-8)

Notes: Prior to today, Walker Weickel had tossed 3 straight quality starts and went at least 6 innings in each of his last 4 starts. Unfortunately for Weickel, both those streaks came to an end as he only went 4 innings and allowed 11 hits. His defense did nothing to help him as they committed 4 errors behind him and allowed 2 unearned runs to score.

Eugene Emeralds 2, Spokane Indians 5

Franchy Cordero – DH: 0-3, K

Jalen Goree – 2B: 1-4, 2B, K

Marcus Davis – LF: 1-4

Trae Santos – 1B: 0-3, BB, K

Felipe Blanco – 3B: 2-4, 2B, HR(1), RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Jose Ruiz – C: 0-4

Walker Lockett – SP: 2.1 IP, 4H, 4ER, 3BB, 0K

Notes: The Emeralds dropped their 3rd game in a row to start the season. Both teams only had 5 hits, but the Emeralds went 0-for-8 with RISP whereas the Indians went 3-for-8 with RISP. Felipe Blanco has started the season on a 3 game hitting streak; he has at least 1 extra-base hit in all 3 games.
