Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-16-13
2013 draftee Erik Schoenrock made his professional debut and did well, but the Emeralds and their anemic offense were only able to put up 2 runs in their 8-2 defeat. Justin Hancock continued his dominating 2013 as the TinCaps won 10-5. Led by Jace Peterson and his 3rd home run of the year, the Storm won 4-2. Yeison Asencio hit his first Double-A home run and Donn Roach turned in a quality start in the Missions’ 7-2 victory. Kevin Quackenbush struck out both the batters he faced while collecting his 13th save of the year. The T-Pads allowed 9 runs in the first inning and were never able to comeback as they lost 18-7.

On the other hand, Asencio smacked his 1st home run and drove in his 8th run today while improving his average to .317. Donn Roach tossed a quality start and lowered his ERA to 4.40. Roach has been extremely inconsistent this year.

Notes: Travis Jankowski went 1-4 and collected his California League leading 45th stolen base. Jace Peterson continues his hot hitting; he is now on a 7 game hitting streak and has driven in 7 runs over that span. The home run he hit tonight, his 3rd, gave him a career high in home runs. He hit 2 home runs in both 2011 and 2012. He has driven in 36 runs over 247 AB’s. While Austin Hedges was unable to contribute with his bat, his defense shined as he threw out the only player who attempted to steal off of him.

Notes: Justin Hancock continued to dominate the Midwest League opposition as he threw 5 innings and allowed just 1 earned run. Following the outing, Hancock possessed a 1.71 ERA, which leads the Midwest League. Today’s start was Hancock’s last start with the TinCaps for the foreseeable future as he was promoted to High-A Lake Elsinore. Dane Phillips has encountered a slump; he is hitting just .227 over his last 10 games. However, his 2 hits tonight are hopefully a sign that he’s turning things around at the plate.
