Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-19-13

Following a night in which every farm team won, every farm team was unable to record a victory tonight. Eugene’s anemic offense was able to score just 1 run in their 2-1 defeat. Despite an excellent start from Keyvius Sampson, San Antonio was only able to put 2 runs on the board and lost a tight one. Both Brandon Allen and Cody Decker hit home runs, but the pitching was unable to contain the 51s as Tucson lost 8-4.

Tucson Padres 4, Las Vegas 51s 8

Dan Robertson-CF: 0-4, 2K

Dean Anna-SS: 1-4, RBI, K

Jonathan Galvez-2B: 1-3, K, Run scored

Brandon Allen-LF: 1-4, HR(8), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Jesus Merchan-3B: 2-4

Sean O’Sullivan-SP: 4.0 IP, 4H, 4ER, 3BB, 3K (L, 6-4)

Brad Brach-RP: 2.0 IP, H, 0R, 2BB, 3K

Notes: Cody Decker has been red-hot at the plate lately; he’s hitting .324 with 4 home runs and 8 RBI over his last 10 games. Following tonight’s game, Decker is hitting .284 with 9 home runs and 32 RBI with Tucson. Kalian Sams has struggled since receiving a promotion to Tucson. After hitting 10 home runs in just 80 AB’s with San Antonio, Sams has not homered in 30 AB’s with Tucson. Sams has recorded just 4 hits and is hitting .133 over his first 11 Triple-A games. Brad Brach appears to be returning to form since being demoted to Triple-A. After allowing 6 runs in his first 4 Triple-A innings, Brach hasn’t allowed a run over his last 8 innings pitched. He has lowered his ERA to 4.50 and has struck out 16 batters over 16 innings.

San Antonio Missions 2, Corpus Christi 4

Rico Noel-CF: 2-4, K

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-2, BB, K

Yeison Asencio-RF: 0-4

Johan Limonta-DH: 1-4, 2b, 2K, Run scored

Jake Blackwood-3B: 3-4, 2b, K

A.J. Kirby-Jones-1B: 1-4, 2b, 2K

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 1-4, 2b, K

Keyvius Sampson-SP: 6.0 IP, 3H, 2R, 0ER, 2BB, 7K, HR Allowed

Notes: After a rough start to the year in Triple-A, which culminated in a demotion, Keyvius Sampson has found his groove with the Missions. Sampson hasn’t allowed an earned run in either of his last 2 starts in which he has pitched 11.2 innings. In 10 Double-A starts, Sampson owns a 3.16 ERA and has struck out 48 over 51.1 innings. Cory Spangenberg has yet to adjust to Double-A pitching; he’s hitting just .196 since his promotion and .229 over his last 10 games. If Spangenberg is to raise his average he needs to learn to hit at The Wolff, his home stadium. Spangenberg is hitting .241 on the road compared to just .118 at home.

Lake Elsinore Storm: All Star Break

Fort Wayne TinCaps: All Star Break

Eugene Emeralds 1, Hillsboro Hops 2

Henry Charles-CF: 1-5, HR(2), RBI, K, Run scored

Edwin Moreno-DH: 0-2, BB

Franmil Reyes-RF: 0-4, K

Trae Santos-1B: 0-4, 2K

Fabel Filpo-LF: 0-2, 2BB, K

Michael Miller-C: 1-4

Erik Cabrera-SP: 4.0 IP, 4H, 2R, 0ER, 0BB, 5K (L, 0-2)

Notes: The Emeralds’ offense continued their season long scuffle; they only collected 4 hits and 1 run. Unfortunately, not only did the Emeralds’ offense suffer, but their defense did too as they committed 3 errors on the night. Erik Cabrera made his second start for Eugene and rebounded nicely as he threw 4 innings with 0 earned runs and 5 strikeouts. Michael Miller, who was selected in the 20th round of the 2013 draft, has collected a hit in both the games that he has played in. Trae Santos, a 17th round pick in the 2013 draft, has played in 5 games for the Emeralds. He has scuffled offensively, however, as he has collected just 3 hits in 16 AB’s and has struck out 5 times. This loss dropped the Emeralds to 2-4.
