Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-19-14

The Emeralds, led by Trae Turner and Jalen Goree, were the only team on the farm to earn a victory tonight. The Missions lost 4-1 despite a solid start from Bryce Morrow and Hunter Renfroe’s first Double-A home run.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jalen Goree

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Bryce Morrow

El Paso Chihuahuas 2, Iowa Cubs 6

Rico Noel – CF: 0-3, K

Alex Castellanos – LF: 1-4

Brooks Conrad – 2B: 0-4, 2K

Adam Moore – C: 1-4, HR(6), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Tyler Greene – SS: 2-3, 2B, BB, K, Run scored

Jason Lane – P: 2-3, RBI

Jason Lane – SP: 6.0 IP, 8H, 4R, 3ER, 2BB, 5K (L, 5-6)

Notes: Jason Lane put forth a solid effort tonight; he tossed a quality start and smacked 2 of the Chihuahuas 6 hits. Lane has gone at least 6 innings pitched in 4 of his last 5 starts. Adam Moore’s home run in the 7th inning extended his hitting streak to 7 games; Moore is hitting .312 on the year.

San Antonio Missions 1, Midland RockHounds 4

Adam Buschini – 3B: 0-4, K

Casey McElroy – 2B: 1-4, K

Rymer Liriano – CF: 0-4, K

Austin Hedges – C: 0-3

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-4, HR(1), RBI, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – RF: 1-3

Bryce Morrow – SP: 5.0 IP, 2H, 1ER, 1BB, 5K (L, 0-1)

Notes: In his second game played with the Missions, Hunter Renfroe hit his first Double-A home run. It was Renfroe’s 17th home run of the year. Unfortunately, that just about does it for Missions offensive highlights in this game. The Missions went 0-for-3 with RISP and spoiled a solid start from Bryce Morrow. Morrow owns a 1.50 ERA over 2 starts with the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm 7, Lancaster JetHawks 13

Mallex Smith – CF: 0-4, BB, Run scored

Alberth Martinez – RF: 1-4, BB, Run scored

Diego Goris – SS: 0-2, K

Jeremy Baltz – LF: 0-2, K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 4-5, 2 2B, 3RBI, Run scored

Duanel Jones- 1B: 1-4, 2RBI

Bryan Rodriguez – SP: 2.0 IP, 4H, 4ER, 3BB (L, 2-5)

Notes: Gabriel Quintana is getting hot at the plate. Quintana has 7 hits over his last 2 games played with 4 doubles and 5 RBI. Quintana is hitting .263 over 262 AB’s with the Storm, which is a little disappointing considering he hit .305 over 347 AB’s with the TinCaps last year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 4, West Michigan Whitecaps 15

Ronnie Richardson – CF: 2-4, 3B, K, 2 Runs scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 0-4, RBI, K

Fernando Perez – 2B: 2-4, RBI

Franmil Reyes – DH: 0-4, K

Jake Bauers – 1B: 2-4, Run scored

Ryan Miller – C: 1-4, HR(6), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Erik Cabrera – SP: 3.1 IP, 7H, 6R, 5ER, 0BB, 0K, HR Allowed

Notes: Following his 2-hit game tonight, Jake Bauers has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games. Bauers, an 18 year old who is the youngest player in the Midwest League, has arguably been the most consistent bat in the entire Padres organization this year. Bauers hit a whopping .379 over 95 AB’s in the month of May, and he is currently hitting .375 in the month of June. Expect to see his name on top prospect lists soon.

Eugene Emeralds 8, Boise Hawks 7

Trea Turner – SS: 3-5, 2B, 2 Runs scored

Jalen Goree – 2B: 3-4, 2B, HR(1), 4RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored

Franchy Cordero – SS: 2-5, 2K, Run scored

Nick Schulz – CF: 1-5, HR(1), 3RBI, K, Run scored

Jose Carlos Urena – RF: 0-5, 5K

Jose Ruiz – C: 1-5, 2B, Run scored

Jimmy Brasoban – SP: 3.0 IP, 3H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB, 3K, HR Allowed

Seth Lucio – RP: 2.0 IP, 0H, 0R, BB, 4K (W, 1-0)

Notes: Trae Turner enjoyed his first professional multi-hit game. Turner has hit safely in all 3 games that he has played in; he has 5 hits over 12 AB’s and has 4 stolen bases already. Jalen Goree hit his first home run since 2012 and drove in his first 4 runs of the season.
