Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-21-13

Zach Eflin continued to be consistent as the TinCaps won a close one 3-2. Robbie Erlin too enjoyed a quality night as he and Jonathan Galvez led the T-Pads to a 5-3 victory. Unfortunately, Donn Roach was unable to emulate Eflin and Erlin’s success as he allowed 10 hits in just 5 innings in the Missions’ 10-1 loss. Both Eugene and the AZL Padres lost by 1 run.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jonathan Galvez

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Zach Eflin/Robbie Erlin

Tucson Padres 5, Las Vegas 51s 3

Dan Robertson-CF: 1-4, RBI, BB, K

Dean Anna-SS: 1-5, K

Ben Francisco-RF: 1-4, Run scored

Brandon Allen-LF: 0-4, K

Cody Decker-1B: 2-4, K, Run scored

Gregorio Petit-3B: 2-4, RBI, K, Run scored

Jonathan Galvez-2B: 2-3, HR(5), RBI, BB, Run scored

Robbie Erlin-SP: 6.0 IP, 3H, 2ER, 2BB, 7K, 2 HR Allowed (W, 6-2)

Notes: Robbie Erlin recorded a quality start in which he allowed just 3 hits and recorded 7 strikeouts. With Clayton Richard sustaining a shoulder injury against the Dodgers today, Erlin may receive a call-up to take Richard’s spot in the rotation. Cody Decker has now hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games. Decker suffered a rough start to the season but has been much better lately; he has raised his average to .287 with Tucson. Jonathan Galvez ended a power drought as he homered for the first time in the month of June.

San Antonio Missions 1, Midland RockHounds 10

Rico Noel-CF: 1-3, BB, K, Run scored

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-3, BB, 2K

Yeison Asencio-RF: 1-4, 2K

Johan Limonta-DH: 3-4, 2b, RBI

Everett Williams-LF: 0-4, 2K

A.J. Kirby-Jones-1B: 1-4, 2b, 2K

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 0-4, K

Donn Roach-SP: 5.0 IP, 10H, 7R, 2ER, 4BB, 2K (L, 5-7)

Matt Stites-RP: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, K

Notes: Donn Roach has been infuriatingly inconsistent this season; he allowed 10 hits for the second time in his last 3 starts. So far this season Roach will have a stretch of 2 or 3 quality starts before he gets shelled. The only silver lining for Roach was that 5 of the 7 runs he allowed tonight were unearned. On the year Roach owns a 4.34 ERA and has allowed 90 hits over 76.2 innings. Cory Spangenberg continued his struggles with the Missions. Over 53 AB’s, Spangenberg has collected just 10 hits, which is good for a .189 average.

Lake Elsinore Storm 1, Inland Empire 66ers 5

Travis Jankowski-CF: 3-4, BB

Jeremy Baltz-LF: 1-5, 2K, Run scored

Jace Peterson-SS: 1-5, 2K

Travis Whitmore-1B: 1-3, BB, 2K

Austin Hedges-C: 2-4, RBI, K

Justin Miller-DH: 1-3, K

Trevor Holder-SP: 5.0 IP, 7H, 4ER, 2BB, K (L, 2-3)

Notes: Travis Jankowski has been very good with Lake Elsinore this year; he is hitting .291 over 268 AB’s with 45 stolen bases over 69 games. Jace Peterson is now on a 9 game hitting streak and has raised his average to .294 on the year. After going 0-4 in each of his last 2 games, Austin Hedges collected multiple hits and drove in the Storm’s only run tonight.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, South Bend Silver Hawks 2

Corey Adamson-DH: 0-5

Alberth Martinez-CF: 2-5, RBI, Run scored

Maxx Tissenbaum-2B: 2-4, K

Diego Goris-3B: 1-5, 2b, RBI, 2K

Tyler Stubblefield-SS: 2-4, HR(1), RBI, K, Run scored

Brian Adams-RF: 1-4, 2b, 2K, Run scored

Zach Eflin-SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, HR Allowed

Notes: Zach Eflin now has thrown 9 consecutive starts in which he has pitched at least 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs or less. Eflin has been the epitome of consistent this year; he owns a 3.43 ERA over 12 starts and he has struck out 49 over 60.1 innings.

Eugene Emeralds 3, Tri-City Dust Devils 4

Ronnie Richardson-CF: 1-4, 3b, 2K, Run scored

Marcus Davis-LF: 0-3, RBI

Franmil Reyes-RF: 1-3, RBI, BB, Run scored

Trae Santos-1B: 3-4, 2b

Fabel Filpo-DH: 0-3, BB

Anthony Torres-2B: 0-3, K

Erik Schoenrock-SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 2ER, BB, 5K

Justin Livengood-RP: 1.2 IP, 0H, 0R, 3K

Notes: Erik Schoenrock, an 11th round pick in the 2013 draft, made his second career start and did well again. Over 2 starts, Schoenrock has thrown 9 innings with only 3 hits, 2 runs and 9 strikeouts. Justin Livengood continued his hot start to the year; over 3 appearances Livengood has thrown 4.2 innings with only 2 hits and 8 strikeouts. Trae Santos, a 17th round pick in the 2013 draft, enjoyed a career best 3-hit day.

AZL Padres 7, AZL Mariners 8

Dustin Peterson-3B: 2-5, 2K

Fernando Perez-DH: 2-3, RBI, Run scored

Jake Bauers-1B: 2-4, 2b, BB, Run scored

Tyler Dial-C: 2-4, 2b, 3RBI, K, Run scored

Josh Van Meter-2B: 2-4, 2b, RBI, BB, Run scored

Mason Smith-CF: 0-4, K

Cam Stewart-SP: 2.2 IP, 2H, 4R, ER, BB, 3K (L, 0-1)

Adrian De Horta-RP: 1.0 IP, 0R, BB, 2K

Notes: Dustin Peterson and Jake Bauers both collected their first hits as professionals. Josh Van Meter, who is considered a solid hitter with limited power potential, collected 2 hits and raised his average to .375 (3-8). After hitting a home run in his only AB last night, Fernando Perez went 2-3, with an RBI. Adrian De Horta, an 8th round pick in the 2013 draft, made his professional debut and threw a scoreless inning with 2 strikeouts.
