Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-27-14

The Chihuahuas and the TinCaps were the only two teams in the organization to score victories today. Neither team scored a lot of runs, but both teams enjoyed solid performances from their respective pitching staff.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Dane Phillips

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Leonel Campos

El Paso Chihuahuas 4, Tacoma Rainiers 3

Alex Castellanos – CF: 1-5, K

Notes: Donn Roach was wildly effective in this start. Roach allowed 6 walks and failed to strikeout a batter, but he only allowed 2 hits and 2 runs to score as he recorded his first win with El Paso. Tyler Greene is on a 7 game hitting streak and is hitting .395 over his last 10 games. Greene is hitting .318 over 201 AB’s with El Paso.

Notes: Leonel Campos has not allowed a run in 3 consecutive starts. Campos has now thrown 10.2 scoreless innings in a row with 13 K’s in that span. Offensively, the Missions struggled yet again as they were shutout over 14 innings and went 0-for-8 with RISP.

Lake Elsinore Storm 5, Lancaster JetHawks 13

Alberth Martinez – CF: 1-5, K, Run scored

Luis Domoromo – RF: 0-4, K

Diego Goris – SS: 1-3, BB, Run scored

Coby Cowgill – SP: 2.2 IP, 6H, 10R, 5ER, 3BB, 3K, HR Allowed

Notes: This was an all around poor game for the Storm. Starting pitcher Coby Cowgill allowed 10 runs in less than 3 innings, although 5 of those runs were unearned thanks to 3 Storm errors. Dane Phillips was one of the lone bright spots as he went yard for second game in a row.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, South Bend Silver Hawks 1

Ronnie Richardson – CF: 1-4, 2BB, K, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 0-5, K

Jake Bauers – 1B: 0-4, BB, K

Franmil Reyes – DH: 1-5, RBI, 2K

River Stevens – SS: 2-5, K, Run scored

Ronald Herrera – SP: 5.0 IP, 4H, 1ER, 2BB, 4K

Notes: Following tonight’s game, Dustin Peterson is on a 3 game hitless streak. Peterson is hitting .244 over 90 AB’s in the month of June. Ryan Miller has been hot at the plate; Miller is hitting .324 over his last 10 games with 4 home runs over that span. On the year, Miller is hitting .273 with 8 home runs and 24 RBI’s.

Eugene Emeralds 4, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5

Rod Boykin – CF: 0-6, 4K

Franchy Cordero – SS: 1-5, HR(1), 2RBI, BB, 3K, Run scored

AZL Padres 3, AZL Brewers 5

Jordan Paroubeck – LF: 1-5, K, Run scored

Ruddy Giron – SS: 1-5, 2B, RBI

Michael Gettys – CF: 2-4, RBI, BB, 2K

Jonas Lantigua – 1B: 0-5, K

Mason Smith – RF: 3-5

Carlos Belen – 3B: 2-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Starling Ynfante – SP: 2.2 IP, 0H, 1ER, 6BB, 3K

Notes: Starling Ynfante has made 2 starts this year, and he hasn’t allowed a hit over either of them. However, Ynfante is 0-1 with a 1.23 ERA. In his first start, Ynfante was the victim of an unearned run due to an error, but in this start, Ynfante’s inability to command his pitches cost him a run. Jordan Paroubeck singled in this game, and is now riding a 5 game hitting streak.

Three weeks after I was born, Padre legend Tony Gwynn visited my hospital and handed out teddy bears to all the newborn children, including me. I have been a Padre fan ever since. Whether SD is in the midst of an exciting playoff run, or an uneventful off-season, I love following them and I love writing about them.
