Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-5-13

Zach Eflin has been extremely consistent this year for the TinCaps and that did not change tonight as he threw 5 innings with 2 earned runs while the TinCaps won 8-5. After scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning, Lake Elsinore failed to score throughout the rest of the game as they lost 7-6. The defense plagued the Missions tonight; 5 unearned runs scored in their 7-3 loss against the RoughRiders. Tucson had the day off.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Brian Adams

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Zach Eflin

Tucson Padres: DNP

San Antonio Missions 3, Frisco RoughRiders 7

Rico Noel-CF: 0-3, BB, Run scored

Reymond Fuentes-RF: 2-4, 2b, RBI, Run scored

Kalian Sams-DH: 0-4, 4K

Everett Williams-LF: 0-2, BB, K, Run scored

Jeudy Valdez-2B: 0-3, K

Donn Roach-SP: 5.1 IP, 7H, 5R, 0ER, BB, 3K (L, 4-5)

Notes: Donn Roach was extremely unlucky tonight. 3 Missions errors translated to 5 unearned runs. Roach received the loss despite not allowing a single earned run all night. Reymond Fuentes collected multiple hits while increasing his average to .314. After hitting .218 over 473 AB’s at the Double-A level last year, Fuentes is hitting .314 over 210 AB’s at the same level this year. He also has hit 5 home runs this year as opposed to 4 last year. Although many wrote him off as a bust at the end of the 2012 year, Fuentes appears to be rebuilding his status as a top prospect.

Lake Elsinore Storm 6, Visalia Rawhide 7

Travis Jankowski-CF: 0-4, BB

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 2-5, RBI, K, Run scored

Yeison Asencio-RF: 3-5, 2b, Run scored

Jace Peterson-SS: 1-4, Run scored

Austin Hedges-C: 1-2, 2b, RBI, BB

Duanel Jones-3B: 1-4, RBI, K, Run scored

Brandon Alger-SP: 5.0 IP, 9H, 7R, 6ER, 0BB, 5K (L, 1-7)

Notes: After losing 7-6, the Storm’s 5 game winning streak was snapped. Austin Hedges doubled for the fourth game in a row; he has driven in 9 RBI over his last 10 games. After collecting 3 hits tonight, Yeison Asencio raised his average to .298 on the year. He has collected 15 hits over his last 10 games and is hitting .375 over that span. Jace Peterson has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games; he has raised his average up to .284 and has 2 home runs with 29 RBI on the year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 8, Great Lakes Loons 5

Mallex Smith-DH: 0-5, BB, K

Alberth Martinez-CF: 0-4, BB, 2K

Maxx Tissenbaum-2B: 1-4, 2b, BB

Dane Phillips-C: 2-5, K, Run scored

Luis Tejada-1B: 3-5, 2b, 2 Runs scored

Brian Adams-RF: 3-4, 2b, 3b, 3RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Zach Eflin-SP: 5.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, BB, 2K

Michael Kelly-RP: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0R (W, 2-0)

Notes: The TinCaps win off a strong performance at the plate from Brian Adams who came a home run short of the cycle. Zach Eflin turned in his 7th consecutive start in which he has gone at least 5 innings while allowing 2 or less earned runs. After 10 starts Eflin owns a 3.65 ERA; he has struck out 39 in 49.1 innings pitched. The TinCaps are now on a 3 game winning streak.
