Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-6-13

7 starters for Fort Wayne recorded a hit as the TinCaps won 5-3. Lake Elsinore collected 10 hits, but they only managed to score 2 runs in their eventual loss. Despite Kalian Sams’ powerful night at the plate and a quality start from Jose De Paula, the Missions were unable to beat the RoughRiders. Cody Decker went yard and Robbie Erlin allowed just 3 hits over 5 innings, but bad defense did Tucson in as they lost 9-3.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Kalian Sams

Tucson Padres 3, Sacramento River Cats 9

Dean Anna-SS: 2-4, 2b, BB, Run scored

Dan Robertson-CF: 1-4, BB

Jonathan Galvez-2B: 2-4 RBI, BB, K

Gregorio Petit-3B: 2-4, BB, K, Run scored

Robbie Erlin-SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 5R, 3ER, 4BB, 2K (L, 4-1)

Notes: In a game against top pitching prospect Sonny Gray, the T-Pads were unable to muster substantial offense. Gray held the T-Pads to 2 earned runs over 6.2 innings. The T-Pads’ starter, Robbie Erlin, held his own. He only allowed 3 hits over 5 innings, but bad defense led to 2 unearned runs, and the 4 walks he allowed didn’t help him either. John Baker has played in 2 games with Tucson since being sent down and he has failed to record a hit in either game.

San Antonio Missions 2, Frisco RoughRiders 3

Reymond Fuentes-CF: 2-4, BB, Run scored

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 0-4, K

Johan Limonta-1B: 1-4

Kalian Sams-RF: 2-3, 2b, HR(10), 2RBI, BB, Run scored

Everett Williams-LF: 1-4, 3K

Chris Bisson-2B: 1-4, K

Jose De Paula-SP: 6.0 IP, 5H, 2ER, 2BB, 6K

Notes: After a mini-slump that saw Kalian Sams go 0-10, Sams returned to doing what he does best: hitting for power. Sams crushed his 10th home run of the season in just 80 AB’s. He’s driven in 27 runs in just 26 games with San Antonio. Reymond Fuentes collected 2 hits for the second night in a row and raised his average to .318 on the year. Jose De Paula turned in a nearly identical start to his last one; he’s gone 6 innings with 5 hits and 2 earned runs in each of his last 2 starts. He lowered his ERA to 3.49 on the year.

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Bakersfield Blaze 5

Travis Jankowski-CF: 2-5, K, 2 Runs scored, 2 SB(38)

Austin Hedges-DH: 1-4

Duanel Jones-3B: 3-3, BB

Trevor Holder-SP: 6.2 IP, 7H, 5ER, 2BB, 5K, 2 HR Allowed

Notes: Despite out-hitting the Blaze 10 to 7, Lake Elsinore found themselves on the wrong side of a 5-2 ballgame. Travis Jankowski did a little bit of everything tonight; he collected a couple of hits, stole a couple of bases, and had an outfield assist. After collecting a multiple hits tonight, Cory Spangenberg increased his hitting streak to 6 games; he’s raised his average to .296 with Lake Elsinore this year. He hit .271 with Lake Elsinore last year. Since returning from the DL, Austin Hedges has played in 5 games and has recorded at least 1 hit in all 5 of those games.

Corey Adamson-LF: 2-4, 2b

Bryan Rodriguez-SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, ER, BB (W, 1-0)

Notes: After a 0-12 stretch at the plate, 1st baseman Luis Tejada has hit safely in 5 of his last 6 games and has collected 10 hits over that span. Rodney Daal collected 2 hits tonight and raised his hitting streak to 4 games. He’s been hot recently as he is hitting .316 over his last 10 games and has raised his average to .271 on the season with 4 home runs and 18 RBI.
