Daily Farm Round-Up: 6-8-13

After a 12 inning pitcher’s duel that saw Joe Ross turn in his best start of the year, the TinCaps prevailed due to a walk off single from Maxx Tissenbaum. Despite a quality start from James Needy, Lake Elsinore was unable to beat the Blaze. The Missions were shutdown offensively; they recorded 5 hits and 1 run. Tucson was unable to tame the River Cats’ offense as they lost 10-5.

Notes: After dominating the Texas League with San Antonio, Kalian Sams was promoted to Triple-A and made his Tucson debut tonight. He went 1-4 with a strikeout. For the second night in a row, the Tucson pitching staff has allowed double-digit runs.

San Antonio Missions 1, Corpus Christi Hooks 5

Rico Noel-CF: 0-3, BB

Reymond Fuentes-LF: 1-4, K

Yeison Asencio-RF: 1-4

Everett Williams-DH: 1-4

Johan Limonta-1B: 2-4

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-4

Josh Geer-SP: 5.0 IP, 7H, 3R, ER, BB, 4K (L, 2-3)

Kevin Quackenbush-RP: 1.1 IP, 0H, 0R, 4K

Notes: It was not a great night offensively for San Antonio as the Missions were only able to collect 5 hits. Reymond Fuentes, however, was still able to collect a hit as he raised his average to .320 on the year. Kevin Quackenbush is absolutely owning the Texas League; after striking out all 4 batters that he faced he lowered his ERA to 0.32 over 28 innings pitched. He’s allowed just 1 earned run and has struck out 41 over that span.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, Bakersfield Blaze 7

Travis Jankowski-CF: 1-4, Run scored

Justin Miller-DH: 1-4, K

Robert Kral-1B: 1-4, 2b

Jace Peterson-SS: 0-4, K, Run scored

Austin Hedges-C: 0-3, Run scored

Duanel Jones-3B: 0-4, RBI, K

James Needy-SP: 6.0 IP, 4H, 3R, ER, BB, 6K, HR Allowed

Notes: With a single tonight, Travis Jankowski has now hit safely in 6 of his last 7 games. Austin Hedges went hitless for the first time since returning from the DL. James Needy continues to be a solid pitcher for Lake Elsinore; he suffered bad luck tonight as two unearned runs scored on him, but over 12 starts his ERA stands at a very respectable 3.61.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 1, Dayton Dragons 0

Mallex Smith-LF: 1-5, Run scored

Alberth Martinez-CF: 0-4, 3K

Maxx Tissenbaum-2B: 3-4, 2b, RBI, BB

Dane Phillips-C: 0-4. K

Luis Tejada-1B: 0-4, 2K

Corey Adamson-DH: 1-4, K

Joe Ross-SP: 7.0 IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 5K

Notes: In a duel between two 2011 1st round draft picks, Joe Ross and Robert Stephenson, neither team scored over the first 9 innings as the game went into extras. Despite being outhit by the Dragons, the TinCaps scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the 12th due to a walk-off single off the bat of Maxx Tissenbaum. In a game where the TinCaps only collected 5 hits, Tissenbaum was highly impressive as he enjoyed a 3-hit game. Joe Ross turned in his longest start of the year, and only allowed 1 base runner while doing so.
