Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-1-13

Erik Schoenrock was masterful over 7 innings as the Emeralds shut out the Hops and won 4-0. Joe Ross struggled for the second straight start in a row as Lake Elsinore lost 3-2. In stark contrast, Keyvius Sampson dominated for the second straight start as Johan Limonta hit a walk off home run for the Missions. Anthony Bass recorded his first quality with Tucson as the T-Pads won 6-3.

Tucson Padres 6, Sacramento River Cats 3

Dan Robertson-RF: 1-5, RBI, Run scored

Dean Anna-SS: 3-4, 2b, 2RBI

Ben Francisco-LF: 2-5, RBI, 2K, Run scored

Brandon Allen-1B: 2-5, 3b, RBI, K

Anthony Bass-SP: 6.0 IP, 6H, ER, 0BB, 3K (W, 2-1)

Kevin Quackenbush-RP: 2.0 IP, 2H, ER, BB, 4K

Notes: Anthony Bass tossed his first quality start with the T-Pads; the outing lowered his ERA to 7.18. Kevin Quackenbush has been unable to replicate his stellar Double-A numbers with the T-Pads, however, tonight’s outing, in which he struck out 4 batters in just 2 innings, is hopefully a sign of things to come. Dean Anna has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games. He’s hitting .389 over that span and has raised his average to .351 on the year.

San Antonio Missions 3, Springfield Cardinals 1

Rico Noel-CF: 0-3, BB, K, Run scored

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 0-3, K

Yeison Asencio-RF: 0-4

Johan Limonta-1B: 1-4, HR(3), 2RBI, K

Adam Buschini-LF: 2-3, HR(4), RBI, Run scored

Chris Bisson-SS: 0-3, K

Keyvius Sampson-SP: 7.0 IP, 2H, ER, 0BB, 10K, HR Allowed

Notes: Johan Limonta’s 3rd home run of the year came in the walk off variety as his blast gave the Missions a 3-1 victory. For the second straight start, Keyvius Sampson threw 7 innings and recorded double-digit strikeouts. Sampson’s scoreless inning streak was snapped at 25.2 innings. Over 12 starts and 13 appearances at the Double-A level Sampson has thrown 66.1 innings with 70 strikeouts; he owns a 2.58 ERA over that span.

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, High Desert Mavericks 3

Travis Jankowski-CF: 2-4, Run scored, 2 SB(49)

B.J. Guinn-2B: 1-4, K

James Needy-SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 4BB, 3K

Notes: Travis Jankowski stole his California League leading 48th and 49th base tonight while raising his average to .284. Jeremy Baltz has recorded a hit in all 11 games he’s played with the Storm. Ironically, Baltz has also recorded a strikeout in 9 of the last 10 games he’s played in. Austin Hedges continued to show off his strong defense by throwing out both runners that attempted to steal.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Lake County Captains 6

Mallex Smith-DH: 0-3, 2BB, K

Tyler Stubblefield-SS: 1-5, RBI

Maxx Tissenbaum-2B: 1-4, BB

Corey Adamson-RF: 2-4, K

Joe Ross-SP: 4.0 IP, 13H, 6ER, 0BB, K (L, 3-3)

Notes: It’s been a bad few days for the Ross family; following Tyson Ross’ struggles in Miami a couple of days ago, little brother Joe tossed his second poor start in a row. Joe has allowed 6 earned runs in each of his past 2 starts, which has caused his ERA to balloon to 3.77 (his ERA was 3.24 prior to tonight’s start).

Eugene Emeralds 4, Hillsboro Hops 0

Wynton Bernard-LF: 1-3, BB, Run scored

Fernando Perez-DH: 0-4, K

Trae Santos-1B: 2-3, BB, 2 Runs scored

Michael Miller-C: 2-4, 2 2b, RBI, 2K, Run scored

Michael Bass-3B: 1-3, K

Ronnie Richardson-CF: 1-3, BB

Erik Schoenrock-SP: 7.0 IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 8K (W, 1-1)

Notes: 2013 11th round pick Erik Schoenrock tossed one of the finest starts by a Padre minor leaguer all season. Schoenrock allowed just 1 base runner over 7 scoreless innings while striking out 8. 17th round pick Trae Santos collected his second multi-hit game over his past 3 days; he’s raised his average to .262 on the season.

AZL Padres 5, AZL Giants 8

Mason Smith collected the first multi-hit game of his young, professional career. Franchy Cordero continued his hot start to the year; he’s hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games.
